The committee will want to know why Smith was picking on Trump for creating an insurrection on January 6 in an effort to overturn the correct results of the 2020 presidential election, as well as his possession in Florida of classified documents, and by doing so endangering the security of the United States.

So, despite Smiths request that this hearing be public, why is the house insisting that it be behind closed doors? Simple! It's because the Republican controlled house fears mightily that facts very unfavorable to Trump, facts that will show him to be an insurrectionist and criminal of the highest order, will be made public. This way they can safely lie about what facts are actually disclosed by Smith.
