When news outlets speak of the number of unemployed, who is really being labeled as “unemployed?

I checked the following and I could not find a direct definition of the unemployed.

Using a statistical base, how are these numbers derived?

Are the people I see living under overpasses classified as “unemployed”?

I looked but I could not find the answer; can you?
And last but not least, have you ever been unemployed?
just curious

Its the opposite of working for someone and yes.

As far as people living under and over pass, some of them are employed and some are not.

Does the government statistics break it down
as of today,
30 carpenters, 19 electricians, 6 plumbers are seeking work in Dallas
were they considered?

People with jobs are employed. People who are jobless, looking for a job, and available for work are unemployed. The labor force is made up of the employed and the unemployed. People who are neither employed nor unemployed are not in the labor force.

The unemployed are:
  • All those who did not have a job at all during the survey reference week, made at least one specific active effort to find a job during the prior 4 weeks, and were available for work (unless temporarily ill).
  • All those who were not working and were waiting to be called back to a job from which they had been laid off. (They need not be looking for work to be classified as unemployed.)

Just because youre seeking work doesnt make you unemployed. If I work somewhere and I am seeking work elsewhere am I unemployed?
Does your shill position end after the elections?

Don't believe anything the media says.

When I was a child, I believe I was told not to believe what a stranger says out of faith in what he/she says.
Miketx, let's be friends then once a friend I will believe what you say.
OK? :)-
btw
I believe what MSNBC says in their evening broadcasts to be truthful and honest. That doesn't mean there are no mistakes, but if there is one they will acknowledge it unlike that fake, I'll say what you say; just don't try to pay me in rubles

Actually many homeless work day labor sites or take daily jobs to earn money for their substance abuse, so you are correct.

It ends after you get off welfare.
Still no response from the liar on the gun laws.

Youre confused. This thread is about unemployment.

Good question... under Trump's America, what is it? Never seen one.

Oh wait, you mean the socialist Sanders supporters who prefer free shit?

And last but not least, have you ever been unemployed?

Limiting it to my experience after college graduation, I've been unemployed a few times. First prior to finding my first job. Next two years later after quitting that first job. Then three years later after quitting that subsequent job and moving to Arizona. Remained 35 years at my final job and retired 3 years ago.

I got unemployed 30+ years ago........Then I started my own business. Guess I'm still 'unemployed.'

Un employed is out of work when you don't want to be. Yeah I had a couple of tough years when I was trying to change the industry segment I had been working in. The market has a nasty habit of type casting folks that's hard to escape but I eventually pulled it off.
Now I'm no longer working but I'm not un employed, I'm retired. Funny thing is I make almost as much money sitting on my ass now and much more than I did during some years of busting my ass.

I appreciate the responses to this forum, but I still didn’t get the answer I was looking for. In the last several years our government has posted the lowest unemployment in decades. I was wondering if the homeless living under overpasses are considered in those government statistics. Personally, I doubt it. Trump’s world would rather pretend they don’t even exist.
