What Does 'Plead the Fifth' Mean? Will Donald Trump Do It?

It's kind of charming in a small-town way that you perceive the situation as such. Thanks for confirming that.
We just watched it happen. You told an idiotic lie and got proven wrong after begging so.eone to prove you wrong. Of course, you ignored it and will repeat the lie. Because that is who you are.

No, you're not. You're a classic low IQ troll, who is frustrated and angry and likes to type fake LOLs. Good luck.
More please. This is like a delicious juicy ripe peach and we are enjoying slurping it down!

You're terrified.

Just think of how good it will feel when you go to your therapist tomorrow and you can break down and cry about how scared you are.

The ex-president's lawyer has indicated that he will advise Trump to stay mum and invoke the Fifth Amendment's protection against self-incrimination. It's a constitutional right that gets high-profile exposure in settings from Congress to TV crime shows, but there are nuances. Here's what it means — and doesn't — to “plead (or ‘take’) the Fifth."

He once said only mobsters plead the 5th. How very telling.

Individual 1 wants you to believe he's being persecuted. Imagine how loud he will squeal when he is being prosecuted.

What do you mean "will he do it?" Was there ever any doubt? I knew when he said "only mobsters take the fifth" he would do it if ever faced with answering questions under oath. Legally speaking, he'd be a bigger fool than he already is if he didn't plead the fifth.

He invoked his Fifth Amendment right. You should not infer anything by that...

Yes, that's what low IQ trolls do. I know you love the attention. That's fine.

Worth mentioning since no one has done so, so far...

One has the right to remain silent (with exceptions, like when one is granted immunity and compelled to testify.)

If one is confronted with frivolous charges, it is often the best course to simply keep one's mouth shut. Anything one says can be used against one.

Trump obviously did not feel the need to defend himself at this time.

Here's what makes Don pleading the 5th even more damning.

“The negative inference that can be drawn at a civil trial down the road isn’t great for him — that’s the consequence of refusing to testify today, that the jury will be instructed that they can infer that his testimony would have harmed his case — but it’s small potatoes compared to the substantial risk that he would (1) disclose damaging information that could be used against him civilly and/or criminally, (2) lie to avoid disclosing harmful information and thereby open himself up to perjury charges, or both,” she told Law&Crime.

The jury can not be so instructed in a criminal trial. But in a civil case they are allowed to assume, as they should, that Don pleading the 5th was done because testifying truthfully would have revealed his participation in a criminal act.

You have no right to remain silent when ordered to testify. So that's utter nonsense invented out of thin air.

Here is the Donald Trump version of I plead the fifth. Are you ready? 🖕

You're wrong either way. If you testify in court and stay silent, the judge will throw you in jail.
You probably have not been to court, which is a good thing. :)

I have been to federal court many times and witnessed tens of hearings as a Grand Juror. All witnesses are told they have the right to remain silent by taking the 5th, told by every single US Attorney, without fail.

People under trial do not even have to take the stand in their own defense normally. You should know this.
