They imagine that a law prohibiting him from running (if he were to be convicted of a crime) would bar him from running. They are wrong in all respects. Even if they charge him, he won’t ever get tried before he runs and wins.
But even if he could magically be tried and convicted before running, that law is facially unconstitutional, anyway. The Constitution already says what the eligibility requirements are. Period.
