If your prediction comes to fruition that the US "will become as lawless as many other countries", it will mean that our political pendulum has indeed stopped working, more precisely, it would mean it is completely broken from swinging too far left and unable to retract. The US has relied on this steadfast safety valve since the formation of the two major parties, and our political pendulum continuing to shift back and forth every 4 to 8 years.

I've also been concerned about "how low will we go" with respect to where people draw the line for acceptable behavior in public. I am neither a prude nor PollyAnna type, but there are limits to what is appropriate social behavior. Overall, it's a more laissez-faire atttitude with many people nowadays when it comes to their own behavior, but many of these same people place different expectations on others which is bogus and immature. I expect social change over the course of a lifetime, as this is the way of the world since early inception and vasts change will continue to happen and at an accelerated rate. I still count on the good guys finishing first, but the "finish line" moves ever year for all of us so it's up to us to keep the good fight and live another day

Added note partially related to the OP: Anyone who thinks that living in a country SHOULD be FREE of cost is more delusional than the Annie character on Misery right before she chopped down on his leg with the axe. There...got that off my mind and I can now take it easy.
