As I sit around the house waiting for the results of several medical tests which will determine if I have Cancer or not,

I’ve been asking myself what one thing i would tell my 15 year old self to do differently if I could go back and talk to my 15 year old self.

What would you tell your 15 year old self to do differently?

For me it’s very simple… No connections. No girls. No friends. Separate from the family as early as possible. Don’t get close with anyone at school or work. No clubs or extra-curricular activities. Just yourself.

That sounds a little crazy because humans are inherently social and all that is of value comes from connections, girls, friends, family, co-workers, clubs, etc.

But don't give up.
Lots of people beat cancer.

I've been wondering lately what I would do if I could back to my 15 y/o self. (60 years ago)

I think I would locate and kill a dozen or so to-be politicians that I feel have fucked up the country,

The I'd put the barrel of a gun in my mouth and pull the trigger.

Even if you did keep away from others, it doesn't mean you wouldn't get cancer.

So far, you still don't know if you have it. And could easily be something else, less traumatic. I do hope that is the case and wish you the best. Either way, cancer or not, it's best to figure out your plan to overcome it.

Then the question arises, Why would you want to live under those conditions?

I find dogs, cats and horses to be far better options, personally.

It’s how I lived most of my youth… in my bedroom, reading books, writing stories and drawing. It really wouldn’t have been much different.

My plan to overcome unused to be simple… .45 ACP to the skull. Now that I’m married it’s more complicated. That’s one of the reasons I’d go back and tell myself - no connections.

I have some advice for you, but only by private message.

Not a damn thing, I would not have listened anyway. ;)
Agreed. I'd probably do everything the same unless my future self had proof they were from the future.

If that were the case, I would then take seriously the advice to save up enough money and hold onto it so that in my mid-twenties I could purchase Amazon's IPO.

. . . and then that is precisely what I would do.

". . . If you had invested $10,000 in Amazon at its IPO price in 1997, you would have purchased 555 shares, not including commission expenses or fractional shares. Taking into account Amazon's four stock splits, these 555 shares would have multiplied into 133,200 shares, as of today.

With Amazon ending the previous week at $123.53, it means a $10,000 investment a little over 25 years ago would now be worth (get this...) $16,454,196. For those of you keeping score at home, we're talking about an aggregate return of 164,607%, or an average annual return of around 34% for a quarter of a century. . . . "

Twenty-twenty hindsight. I've heard investors relate these stories my whole adult life. Old ones were If I'd only invested in ...Coca Cola, Kodak, Polaroid, IBM--the list is endless.
There are many things I would have done differently but I would have followed most of the same track. Life is good when you avoid the politics.

Then I am glad you are married. It forces you to face your troubles, rather than run from them. Nobody can change their past, it's done & over with and a part of who you are. IIRC, your life hasn't been an easy one due to disfigurement. But instead of 'celebrating' your differences or at the very least accepting them, you've accepted others criticisms as fact and believe them as truth.

Maybe your wife, and dogs, cats, horses, etc can see the real you much better than you see yourself. You should pay more attention to what they think, so you can see yourself for the person you really are. Just a thought

Thanks but honestly at this point I’m rather stuck in my ways. Especially since, if this does turn out to be a serious cancer I’ll pretty much be on the same track my father followed.

He was 27 when I was born. I was 27 and he was 54 (on his birthday) when he died. He got his cancer at age 51. There’s less than a month before my 51st birthday. Ha was found from a skin lesion on the right side of his neck. The issue they’re looking at with me is a mass in the right side of my neck. Do I need to say anything more?

I don't know about everyone else here, but I get what you are saying here. I've lost so many family members in so many different ways, having friends only just add to an already long list.

God bless you always!!!

Holly

P.S. In other words, I would tell my fifteen-year-old self that things are only going to get worse in ways that can't be avoided. :( :( :(

I am sorry to hear that and hope the best for you and your loved ones. I also hope that you can somehow find peace and give those you love good memories in the time you have left.........whether that be from cancer, or old age. Cancer treatments have come a long way in helping people survive what once was considered unsurvivable. There are also natural and holistic measures to help that along. But the biggest and most important factor, IMHO, is your mindset. You can be angry at what life has dealt you but will you give in to it? I would guess giving in or giving up is not something you do or are familiar with.

If there was no mass, would you continue your life? Living it out in whatever manner you do now?? Then don't let this stop you just because you think you're doomed to repeat what happened to your father. It's up to you to break that cycle. In the end, it may very well happen in the same or similar manner, but you have to atleast give it a good fight. For yourself, for your wife and for those around you, pets and all.
