Liberals count on that as they know how equally simple-minded their cohorts are. It advances their cause to keep people stupid and in the dark.

They just today lied about the monthly employment report, soon handing all the credit to Mr. Magoo himself: Here are the factoids:

The monthly employment report came in much better than expected on Friday. The economy created 916,000 jobs, far above the 668,000 expected. The unemployment rate ticked down to 6 percent, which is still elevated compared with the Trump-era pre-pandemic lows but in line with the historical average.

Even with the blowout March hiring spree, there are still 5.5 percent fewer employed Americans than there were before the pandemic struck. The manufacturing sector is missing half a million jobs, and its March recovery lagged behind other segments. This is especially striking because this week's report from the Institute for Supply Management featured manufacturing businesses complaining that they cannot find workers.

One way to square this is by looking toward the $300 a week enhancement to unemployment benefits. Although the extra cash has come down from the $600 bonus passed in March 2020, even at current levels the best estimates are that 60 percent of workers get as much or more from unemployment benefits as they received on the job. That's a powerful disincentive to work and could explain why businesses would have trouble finding workers even while millions are still unemployed. ( pay not to work )

There are other signs that the enhanced benefits are becoming a drag on the labor market. After two months of booming jobs, the labor force participation rate remains almost unchanged. And the number of workers who say they are ready and willing to work but haven't searched for a job in the past month also has held steady. Both should be coming down given the rapid hiring.

We expect that sooner or later, the Biden administration will want to claim credit for the jobs boom. So it is important to point out that the February and March numbers reflect pre-stimulus jobs growth. This isn't a Biden boom as much as it is a DeSantis and Abbott boom. It's the reopening that is driving growth, and much of that has been done in contravention to the policies of the Biden administration. Biden didn't cause this jobs boom—he tried to stand athwart it yelling, "Halt and mask up—twice!"
