.That's how it used to be handled. In my AO it was the Salvation Army that made-up the boxes and those authorized to receive them came and picked them up.
For those that had no means to get there the SD, town PD, VFD, and even the cab companies would deliver the boxes. Of course those that received the boxes back then were truly destitute.
Then the grocery lobby cried foul saying they were losing business and that is how the early food stamp program came about....And it went down hill from there.
Today Walmart redeems 25% of SNAP in their stores. You don't think the grocery lobby be like it is but it do.![]()
My dad passed, unprepared, and my mom was left with no resources, except that Salvation Army box and the skills she learned from her mom.
We ate.
We even got Christmas -- my dad passed in November and my mom was so worried about our Christmas. The Salvation Army showed up at the door, one dressed as Santa, with a big food box including a few bags of Christmas candy, a Christmas tree and wrapped presents with our names on them.
This is how it needs to be done. My church provides as much as we can for those in need.
