Well today's the day, wthose ebt cards be replenished, or will we have a month of Wal Mart takeovers. Report here if you venture out.

.

I do need to go get some groceries, but I shop where they don't. I doubt if they even know my organic co-op markets exist.

You couldn't get farther from Walmart than the stores I shop in.

Besides, this is an open carry state, and so lots of folks will be carrying.

My little town has a tiny grocery and one family of the folks who might be inclined to want to walk out with their purchases unpaid for, and we have a well-organized phone tree. Nobody would get far with stolen merchandise.

I sure love being a Flyover Country Redneck!

I note the roads are awful quiet for a Saturday morning....Maybe they are all over at the Walmart looting. ;)

There may be some here that are old enough (and were working) that may remember when the 'food stamps' were really printed coupons that were redeemed at stores. The youts still call them food stamps because they were raised on them. People would just sell their paper stamps or trade them for drugs or liquor, and around 1990 or so they evolved into electronic ebt cards. It was obvious when someone in front of you at Safeway was using them, and they complained it made them seem like they were getting free shit in public, which maybe had some merit then but now it is a badge of honor. Now they just flash a card and you have no idea they are using it. The paper was often stolen in the mail, and a hassle for the recipient and cashiers to deal with. Now it is electronically loaded, no need to go to the mailbox, and it has turned into a generational thing, like season tickets at the football stadium. It is also expected to rise with the cost of living, and it had better be there. What Year Did Paper Food Stamps Stop: A Complete Guide - Got2bwireless.com

Any one know if the SNAP program was increased or whatever during COVID?

It needs to move to the next phase IMO. People needing food assistance should have food delivered to them. Simple box of food staples delivered once a month. To qualify each month they should be required to submit proof, pics, they're using the food, other wise it's cut off.

That's how it used to be handled. In my AO it was the Salvation Army that made-up the boxes and those authorized to receive them came and picked them up.

For those that had no means to get there the SD, town PD, VFD, and even the cab companies would deliver the boxes. Of course those that received the boxes back then were truly destitute.

Then the grocery lobby cried foul saying they were losing business and that is how the early food stamp program came about....And it went down hill from there.

Today Walmart redeems 25% of SNAP in their stores. You don't think the grocery lobby be like it is but it do. 😐
