Well now! Surprise surprise...

Seems to me you made two points, both of which I got: The first that the OA hasn't created nor saved any jobs (not true),

It is your denial which is untrue.

and the other that you're a comedian. But I'd hold onto that day job you seem to covet. Calling me a "maggot" might go over big in a second-grade classroom but doesn't strike me as hilarious on an adult message board.

Not surprisingly, the "second" thing you derived is (as usual with you) quite wrong. I am not a comedian. Whether or not I am occasionally amusing or funny is a matter of opinion and taste. I recognize that you have no basis upon which to pass such judgments, and that's fine, Maggot. I remain indifferent to your opinions on almost everything!

Oh crap. Your school-marmish effort to correct my manner of communicating with you appears to have flatly failed. :eusa_drool: Oh well!

I see, and that's why you're so prompt with yet another retort. Gotcha.

You seem to believe that my responding to your silly commentary is the same thing as being concerned with your opinions.

You get dumber with each passing post, Maggot.

Maggie honestly, this is not rocket science, it is simple mathematics.

When you apply that properly it does not provide a favorable end result for the American people.

I can tell you this, I never vote a party line, I vote the person or the issue. I vote for people from all political parties. If I could see how any of this White House's plans could benefit small business, I would be applauding them and welcoming them.

However, as they make a positive move on one end which might help, they counter it with a greater liability on another end. This is Washington politics as usual.

IMO, When the republicans had their opportunity they failed and now the other side is failing as well.

Silly Obama!! He saved or created 2 million jobs? BFD!!! I saved or created a whole world. There are 1 google of people in the world I saved or created. That's like only $ 0.0000001 cents per job!!! Anyone here need a job saved or created? Just let me know. I can save and create "at will" and I use bigger made up numbers than Obama.

I wouldn't object to a higher rate for business mail. Seems like the bulk of my mail is unsolicited business mailings. Since the government is charging more because of costs, why do I have to pay more for junk mail?

Problem is that higher postal rates paid by corporations means higher costs for you and I so in the long run you and I are paying the higher rates.

I say just make junk mail illegal!!

Too bad doing so would actually be a violation of the rights of the corporation.

To make Junk mail illegal would destroy the Post office. I would guess that at least 40% of my mail is nothing but junk mail.

It could translate into higher consumer costs or it could reduce mailings. Perhaps a test for six months?

name one country that has lower postal rates than us....
and "Direct Mail Advertising" is a more effective way to advertise than the other mediums.....certainly more effective than TV, Radio and Newspaper.....right now might be the most effective way....

The Constitution doesn't change the laws of economics. As for what was said and meant, I believe it's clear what was meant. Government created jobs do not add to the economy, but detract from it. Therefore, the government cannot create "real" jobs.

so i guess when i was getting my ass soaked delivering the mail today,i was not really working, because i was not doing a "real" job....and i guess when i get paid and spend the money,im not contributing to the economy.....:eusa_eh:

Forget it, Harry. Kevin is an ideologue of the worst kind. He will stand his ground even as his principles get sucked up by the giant hole of reality.

Understanding how an economy works isn't being an ideologue.

I'd really like to know what alternate universe Kevin, Foxfyre, and Ollie live in. This would not be the most envied country on earth if it weren't for the HUGE national programs that sparked private industries into becoming equally as HUGE profit makers. Apparently they feel that Fast Eddie, Joe Blow, and Mary Wary could have pooled their intelligence, and with no startup money, created an investment pool in the billions and built the interstate highway system. Or created the science and technology from somewhere else other than space endeavors which provided hundreds of clues, and the tools, now required in advanced medicine and other technologies commonly in use by the public at large.

Perhaps you could tell us what alternate universe you live in where the laws of economics are reversed?

Not so sure about that. I throw junk mail away as soon as I read far enough to see what it is. TV commercials get muted, but at least somewhat watched. Radio is background
noise. Don't get a newspaper.

My point was, an increased stamp rate means I pay for junk mail already. Less junk mail could result in less daily delivery needs, wear and tear on equipment and our friend Harry.

But -- but -- but -- the President and his peeps wouldn't just "make up" big numbers, would they?

I'm sure that there HAS to be a way to validly calculate and measure "saved jobs!"

Yes. Now that I think about it, I'm certain there MUST be, or else it would be silly (or worse) for the Obama Administration to blithely make claims about the saving of jobs!

There is no hard and fast "law" of economics. I know you would like it not to be true, but we no longer live in a strict capitalistic society. The sheer number and diversity of Americans has created a mixed economy for the United States.

mixed economy: Definition from Answers.com

A mixed economy is an economic system that includes a variety of public and government control, or a mixture of capitalism and socialism.

There is not one single definition for a mixed economy, but relevant aspects include: a degree of private economic freedom (including privately owned industry) intermingled with centralized economic planning and government regulation (which may include regulation of the market for environmental concerns, social welfare or efficiency, or state ownership and management of some of the means of production for national or social objectives).

There are laws of economics, and the fact that we have a mixed economy doesn't change those laws it simply attempts to break them.

Obama can claim the stimulus created or saved EVERY job in the United States it is exactly the same as saying he saved or created 2 million jobs. . It is a bullshit metric that cannot be measured. I invented a whole world in my sleep last night, that doesn't mean that it is real. There is no such thing as a saved job.

But maybe in Obama world, it is the thought that counts, right? He wanted to create jobs!!! His intentions were good!!!

One man's junk, another man's treasure. If junk mail was truly junk mail, nobody could afford to compose it, have people prepare it, print it, bundle it for mailing, and get it to the post office. The fact that it shows up in your mailbox with reliable regularity indicates that it is profitable to mail out the junk mail. And you are correct that without it, the post office would be in far worse financial shape than it is.

We actually look forward to the weekly grocery ads and other sales flyers because they help us find the lowest prices for what we intended to buy anyway.

Telephone sales calls and telephone solicitations for donations is another thing and we are grateful that there is a no call list to which we can subscribe.

By laws I mean facts that do not change. One law of economics is that governments do not create wealth. It's impossible to take capital from the productive sector of society, put it where you think it should go instead, and generate any kind of real wealth. Only the market can accurately decide where resources should go in any kind of rational manner. If the government decides that there needs to be a business that the market is not providing for on its own, and then uses taxpayer money to create that business then they're not creating wealth. That business would not survive on its own in the private market because there's not enough demand for it. The economy would be better off if that business was not wasting resources for a product or service that people do not want, and if the government was not taxing them to force this business upon them.

If two banks merge, inevitably there are layoffs as the two attempt to combine personnel resources. Joe's job at one desk might get the ax, while Mary's job right across the aisle from Joe might be "saved." That happens all the time in the private sector.

In the public sector, a "saved" job is also one that doesn't get the ax because of budget constraints. If the total unemployment number was theoretically exactly 1,000,000, a "saved job" would make the number 999,999. It's a no-brainer.
