Welcome to the resistance? Mitch McConnell bucks Trump with ‘no’ votes

Democrats heap praise on their former foe, while his GOP colleagues express disappointment.

This reminds me. Reminds of when I have made statements regarding Mitch McConnell, praising his skills. I've done the same with Justice Clarence Thomas (informed by reading of people like Jeffrey Rosen and others), and some others with whom I am politically opposed to. and or even ideologically opposed to. Give credit where it is due. Keeping any inadvertent demonization at a minimum (maybe personal attacks, but attacks on skills and results).

As many of his colleagues have swallowed their concerns about these nominees’ backgrounds or policy positions, McConnell has silently and with little fanfare voted against them — refusing to even meet with the candidates one on one before doing so.
“The Senate’s power of advice and consent is not an option; it is an obligation, and one we cannot pretend to misunderstand,” McConnell said in his statement Wednesday. “When a nominee’s record proves them unworthy of the highest public trust, and when their command of relevant policy falls short of the requirements of their office, the Senate should withhold its consent.”
I've long praised Mitch as a superb tactician as well as a superb strategist. Most successful politicians, advisors, managers, strategists, and leaders are either one or the other. Not both.

This is why most repubs were opposed to go along to get along mitch. He's great at bending over for democrats, but when dems are in power, they just ram it up the repubs asses.

Change was long overdue

Where have you arrived at that number, Pknopp? Let's be honest here...you have NO IDEA what the debt will be under Trump and won't know that for at least a year! So this is nothing more than fear mongering trying to distract attention from the rampant misuse of tax payer dollars!

Trump argued to raise the debt limit. Someone wanting to address the debt does not do that. When it goes up you'll have excuse after excuse after excuse for it.

Someone who really wanted to address the debt would attack waste and fraud in Government. It's like a leaky bucket, Pknopp. We pour more tax payer dollars into the bucket but we can never get it to be full because of the huge leaks. Trump is actually going to address that and he's the first President in our lifetime that's even tried.

I've condemned it constantly. Oddly you can't condemn Trump wanting to completely get rid of the debt limit.

Democrats losing on EVERY front. Zero unity....zero loyalty...

"Cuts spending". So there should be no need for raising the debt limit.

We will see.
There's another 5 trillion in spending cuts that can be triggered as well with this budget.

They certainly are not necessarily audits. Lawsuits can be brought to stop someone from snooping around where they do not belong either.

Someone with billions in government contracts has no business doing any of this.

It takes months to do an audit like this.
Musk us doing it in days. Funny how that happens when it isn't a bureaucrat doing it, huh?

I bet they get them back. Some already have.
At USAID? Who have gotten jobs back? It's an Agency that's been shuttered. The good things that they were doing will be done through the State Department now. Some of the USAID employees might get jobs at State but only if they can show that they weren't party to all of the wasteful spending at USAID!
