What I don't understand is why you don't understand that what you call sexual immorality was just as societally sanctioned then. Same as it ever was. Aside from that you base your entire belief system about human sexuality morality and what is right or wrong behavior on the most ignorant literal perverse interpretation of scripture possible as if the concerns of God who is Spirit were diet fashion and the sexual preferences of human beings.

I personally don't believe in sex outside my marriage and we never "shacked up" and had a child out of wedlock. But people are free to do what they want. You can't force people to live your lifestyle.

In the OP's example Ingrid Bergman was banned from Hollywood and denounced. But what about the man? (Roberto Rossellini) Pretty sure he continued to work. In fact I know this because I looked it up. "Journey to Italy" is considered one of his greatest works which was post-affair. Isn't this the real issue? The women is ostracized and the man goes free. Rosellini worked in Italy, which is where Bergman had to work after she was banished from the US. He wasn't working in the US; same as Ingrid. Journey to Italy was an Italian film.

I define licit sex as that pccurring in marriages recognized by the Catholic Church. This would include first time marriages even between non-Catholics and non believers in civil ceremonies. I assume this is a diversion for you since you made the ridiculous claim that society's views today are identical to those in the 1940s.
