Your Constitution was written nearly 300 years ago, as a framework for the creation of a small agrarian coastal nation of fewer than 3 million people spread, from Georgia to New Hampshire. They lived in a time with no electricity, mass manufacturing, or rapid means of communication. Most people were born, lived and died within a 50 mile radius.

The states needed strong local rights because of differences in climate, and the difficulties in governing over long distances. Life in New Hampshire was quite different than life in Georgia.

Your Constitution is woefully iinadequate for the sprawling coast to coast nation of 350 million people. If it were working well, you wouldn't be spending all of your time arguing what the Founders meant or intended. And you wouldn't be dealing with upprisings of authoritarianism every 40 years or so.
