People are selfish. That predates telecommunications. Even acts of charity are selfish acts intended to make people feel good about themselves. There is no more personal sacrifice in the tweets you like than the ones you don't. The posters of them are looking for the exact same dopamine hit from a like or a retweet or even a hateful response as the replier is looking for in giving the like, the retweet or the hateful response. As long as someone reacts, they think they have "voice".

There was a time where social media did not exist, where people met face to face and ironed out their differences and worked together for the good of all. The idea then was for the nation (the USA) to win for all of us combined. When meeting eye to eye, it was more difficult to lie (not that it didn't happen but seeing eye to eye with someone, it becomes more difficult) and meeting eye to eye, you could often feel the other persons caring (or lack thereof), a persons pain (and associate with it), and a persons desire to work together (or work alone).

Think of it this way, being in a football field with the other members of the team, you can feel the wins and losses more than if you are a Monday morning quarterback on TV.

Social media has made lying more popular and being selfish a lot easier.

There is a problem worldwide that started occurring when social media began but the pandemic has taken it to a much higher degree. Here in the U.S., this problem has been taken to even a much higher degree by Trump, given that he is the ultimate example of the problem.

What am I talking about? Selfishness.

Up to here in this OP, this problem is worldwide. All nations that have social media online are experiencing this.

Nonetheless, we elected a narcissist president and narcissism by nature means selfish behavior to the max. He has been a magnet for other narcissists to become supporters of him.


Having said all of the above and with Trump now our leader and the above proven to be in effect, what then does all of this make it a big problem that can only be fixed by a catastrophe?

For any nation to survive, the "team concept" needs to be in place. A nation is a large group of people where everyone plays a part of its success and more importantly, needs to be a part of the success. When only a small portion of its citizens enjoy success and the large part does not, the nation crumbles and disunity occurs. Disunity brings disfunction and that brings chaos.

The only thing that can cause selfishness to go away is for a catastrophe to occur where people are FORCED to work together to survive. As long as one side can win and the other lose, selfishness will remain. When both sides are losing, selfishness needs to disappear or a loss to all is certain.

I have no idea of what kind of time frame is involved here (a few years, a few decades or even a few centuries) for this problem to reach its conclusion, but the reality is that there is NO SOLUTION available as only a catastrophe can solve it now.

The Selfishness virus has taken hold and there is no vaccine or medicine to cure it.

We already have a catastrophe.

It's called Democrats.

I am very familiar with the history of my nation (the U.S.) and what you speak of is the normal way it has ALWAYS been. We are now seeing the extremes, especially of the right but also SOME from the left. All extremes are bad (for example Project 2025) but some of the extremes that the right (and you are saying is happening) is NOT happening. They are lies that have been spread by Trump and the Far right and you believe them but they are not based on reality..............at least not the the extreme that the right is saying they are. The left does not want OPEN borders (the key word is "want"). they did generate a situation where some kind of open border did occur but it was a mistake and they corrected it. Those open borders have been mostly closed by Biden in correcting what was done previously.

As such, the lie that the Democrats presently want open borders, is an outright lie.

It is not what I want that is important. It is what is needed for unity of the nation to occur and the only way that happens is for both parties to sit down and compromise on the issues to the approval of both sides.

You, Trump and the far right have this "my way or the highway" mentality and that is not going to work.

It is all the parties involved (the House, the Senate, and the Executive office) to talk about the facts (not the lies) and come up with a resolution. That cannot and will not happen if both sides are refusing to talk and compromise. Both sides are guilty of that but more more the right than the left, as proven over the past 8 years.
