Washington For Sale - Gun Rights Versus Gun Control

There seems to be an inability by the federal government to do anything about firearms in the United States

Nobody would do anything when hanging on the money hook

That depends on what it is that is desired and if it is reasonable.

Allowing the debate to always be framed between all or nothing is not going to alter anything. Allowing the media to frame the debate at all is ridiculous.

Forcing people to take a psych evaluation in order to acquire a license or purchase a gun is ridiculous. It's simply not feasible. Further, if the problem is mental illness than address that issue unless of course that might require some actual thought with goals and outcomes-as in long term or lifelong care in a facility.

If the issue is guns in the street than the issue can also be tied to sentencing---state issues. Address it. That means prison time.

If refunding the ATF is part of the problem or what it takes then address that.

There are things that can be accomplished.

The biggest reason for this is the absence of a sound argument - one not based on emotion, ignorance and/or dishonesty - for doing so.

The 2nd biggest reason for this is the 2nd amendment, which protects an individual right to possess a firearm unconnected with service in a militia, and to use that arm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home.

3rd biggest reason? People are willing to stand up for their 2nd Amendment rights, and use their 1st amendment rights to do so.

Not exactly how it works, or at least used to. I am not sure how they do it currently as I do not follow them, but for years it was pretty simple--you opposed gun control and they gave $5K to your campaign. Didn't matter anything else about you and if two people squaring off both opposed gun control then they both got the money. Republicans tend to represent rural areas and rural areas tend to not support gun control, ergo republicans and conservative democrats are naturally going to oppose gun control with or without the $5K because $100K wouldn't be enough to help them if they were on the other side of that issue as people just wouldn't vote for them. It is THE issue in a lot of races in the south and flyover country for a significant number of white voters.
