I've been to places in Europe where concrete structures built by the Romans still stand in spite of the centuries. The same hold true in the Americas with structures built by the Aztecs, Mayans, and Incans.

Volcanic ash? Makes a lot of sense for many places, including Mexico where huge volcanoes exist. But Yucatan and Peru? Should be interesting what they discover.

Read the story @ Roman concrete used secret ingredient to stand the test of time and now engineers want to copy it Daily Mail Online

I seen it on the history channel that Rome's buildings were unique, esp the underwater harbors or break water walls that are still standing today. Its so hard to imagine how they built the underwater walls. Weren't they the first to use arches as well. Its amazing the building they did way back then.

I've visited Roman baths in Europe that still serve today exactly as they did 200 centuries ago.
