Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Cal) to introduce bill to end Electoral College

The actual likelihood of Boxer's bill passing is low. It's a proposed constitutional amendment, which would require passage not only by two-thirds majorities in the House and Senate, but then in three-quarters of states. A lame duck session and a Republican Congress will make it difficult to get such a bill through the legislative branch.

Folks the ELECTORAL COLLEGE is essential to a CONSTITUTIONAL REPUBLIC - the US is NOT supposed to be a democracy

In a democracy our rights are dependent upon majorities

Our RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS would have been subjected to the left wing fascists who control NY and California.

BEWARE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The proposal that the Electoral College should have voted for Hillary, thereby undermining the Constitutional structure of state v federal rights, was very serious. It demonstrates just how corrupt her followers can be willing to destroy everything to force their way upon the whole. This proposal would have destroyed the entire Constitution, and Hillary would have been marginalized by having both the Senate and House in Republican hands. Such a proposal is morally dishonest. Nevertheless, this type of insurrection could have brought the United States to the boiling point of civil war. The likelihood of such a proposal is not very high. It would effectively be TREASON against the entire country even if it were the other way around.

Will never get the votes, if it even gets that far. She can just point to it for re-election purposes.

Hands Off the Electoral College

The problem, of course, is that our country is not a democracy. Our nation was founded as a constitutionally limited republic, as any grammar school child knew just a few decades ago. Remember the Pledge of Allegiance:
“and to the Republic for which it stands”? The Founding Fathers were concerned with liberty, not democracy. In fact, the word democracy does not appear in the Declaration of Independence or the Constitution. On the contrary, Article IV, section 4 of the Constitution is quite clear: “The United States shall guarantee to every state in this Union a Republican Form of Government(emphasis added).

I'm not advocating for the abolition of the EC, but how would making the presidential election a popular vote based election change the US from a constitutional republic to a democracy? Would electing the president by popular vote somehow mean the people are no longer represented in government? What about the many other government offices which are determined by popular vote?

Depending on the definition you use, the US can already be considered a democracy because the people have the power, exercised through elections.

The US is a representative democracy. What we are not is a direct democracy. Choosing the president by popular vote would not change that. I don't know why that theme seems so common in response to calls for abolishing the EC.

Should be proposed every day as America inches closer and closer to nuclear war under Trump. By the end of his 4 (or less most likely) years, the country may be in so much danger it will vote to ratify the amendment.

Hillary should make that the core of her 2020 Presidential run

The emphasis on democracy in our modern political discourse has no historical or constitutional basis. Yet we have become obsessed with democracy, as though any government action would be permissible if a majority of voters simply approved of it. Democracy has become a sacred cow, a deity which no one dares question. Democracy, we are told, is always good. But the founders created a constitutionally limited republic precisely to protect fundamental liberties from the whims of the masses, to guard against the excesses of democracy. The Electoral College likewise was created in the Constitution to guard against majority tyranny in federal elections. The President was to be elected by the states rather than the citizenry as a whole, with votes apportioned to states according to their representation in Congress. The will of the people was to be tempered by the wisdom of the Electoral College."

And win they lose ...the lose big time

I really don't know what kind of a President these Reich wingers believe Comrade Trump is going to make--LOL

Hillary Clinton kicked his ass by 2.8 million more votes. Senate Republican intelligence committee members are having a conniption fit about Russia's involvement into this election to help get Trump elected. They were the ones that put the pressure on Obama to issue this executive order. It is now CONFIRMED that's exactly what happened.

Right now we have investigative reporters working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week wanting to win the Pulitzer prize, trying to prove collusion with anyone within the Trump campaign to do a cyber attack on the United States, which would be TREASON. And we haven't even gotten into his conflicts of interest yet. Like owning hotels in China.

Trump's Hotels In China Could Be A Conflict For The President-Elect

Trump has the worst approval rating of any President Elect in the history of this nation. Down to 42%. G.W. Bush in the same position losing the popular vote by 500K but winning the electoral college vote--had an approval rating of 53% at this same time.
Donald Trump Receives Historically Low Post-Election Approval Rating

Trump and his supporters have made so many Republican enemies in the Senate, & house they probably would have gotten along better with Hillary Clinton anyway.

They aren't going to kiss Trump's ass, and with Russian involvement, they're ready to sink Trump's ship with his supporters on board. They have nothing at all to lose by doing so. Their worry is if they don't is, they'll nominate Pee Wee Herman next time around if he makes a come back on reality T.V.

So Trump is going into office as the most Illegitimate, loathed by both sides of the isle President to ever be seated into the oval office. The first LAME DUCK President to ever be sworn into the Oval Office. The only President elect that had to barricade himself inside the Trump tower, and his communication with the outside world has been reduced to a Tweeter account. And they think they're still going to get a wall--LOL
