The fact that the laptop wasn’t covered as a story has been validated by the fact that years later there is nothing there. The fact you wanted a non-story hyped up is a non-starter. Living paycheck to paycheck or unable to pay a $400 unexpected expense does not equate to bankruptcy status. Many, if not most Americans suck at spending money, saving, investing and other ways to set them up with a better financial outcome.. they choose to have things now, and put themselves into debt for the biggest television, the football tickets or the car they can't afford all for short term gain and long term loss.
