A few times I have gotten the message that my virtual memory was low and that Mocrosoft was addressing it by freeing up more memory...I have never had this problem before, the only thing I can think of is I had temporarily turned off my pop up blocker and of course my computer kept freezing.

Be sure to wipe out all temp internet files too..
Run Spybot and AD-Aware. see what happens.
