From January 1–April 30, 2026, Chicago recorded 130 homicides, up about 8% from the same period in 2025 . April alone saw 32 homicides, a 39% increase over 23 in April 2025 . Shootings rose from 399 in the first quarter of 2025 to 421 in the first quarter of 2026, a 5% increase . The city has seen 501 shootings so far in 2026, up 9% from last year.
