President-elect Donald Trump's newly created Department of Government Efficiency could impact health care for veterans if plans to cut appropriations for expired bills go ahead.

Trump announced on Tuesday that Tesla CEO Elon Musk and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy would spearhead the newly created Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, once he takes office in January. Trump said DOGE, which will not be an official government department, will "slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure Federal Agencies."

Ramaswamy, who ran for the Republican presidential nomination before suspending his campaign in January, has since said that money spent on expired government programs should be stopped. In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Ramaswamy cited the $516 billion spent on expired acts for the 2024 fiscal year.

"There are 1,200+ programs that are no longer authorized but still receive appropriations," which he described as "totally nuts" and advocated for saving "hundreds of billions" of dollars each year by "defunding government programs that Congress no longer authorizes."

Legislative authorities can expire and continue to receive appropriations—a law of Congress that provides an agency with budget authority—subject to congressional reauthorization. Among those expired appropriations is the Veteran's Health Care Eligibility Act, which amounted to $119 billion in government spending for 2024.

The act provides health care benefits to those who have served in active military, naval, or air service and did not receive a dishonorable discharge. It covers outpatient services like health appointments, immunizations, nutrition education, and inpatient services such as surgeries, acute care, and some conditions or injuries that may require urgent care. The act expired in 1998 but has been continually funded.

For all my fellow veterans who voted for this idiot don't start crying when they screw us over.

Veteran's health care could be cut. The sun could explode tomorrow. The odds are about the same to any thinking individual that doesn't just follow party doctrine with their eyes closed.

Unfortunately, leftwingers will howl and scream when necessary cuts are made. It’s pure evil to trade taxpayer $$ for votes as the Democrats have always done. It takes zero courage, while destroying the system.

And it won’t matter WHAT useless programs end up cut. The Dems will scream.

Did we really need to spend $7 million on a smart toilet to film a user’s nether regions to get an “anal footprint”? Or $6 million to boost Egyptian tourism? What about $45 million for DEI scholarships on Burma? Or $500,000 to try to turn monkeys transgender? Or even $75,000 for a study to blow lizards off trees?

And what about REAL money? Like $250 billion in payment errors? Or $500 billion still going to expired programs? Or what about the fortune we pay to maintain government buildings that are only 12% occupied (since the “workers” are at home, at full pay, going to the movies and taking walks in the park)?

Mashmont

When I was looking around for examples (that I posted above), I came across one government study that spent $2 million to see if children are reluctant to eat food after seeing someone sneeze on it.

(Turns out they are.)

this is not coming from us.

veterans hospitals represent bullions in prime developable urban property.

our billionaires are salivating.
My VA hospital is an old building on the campus of Vanderbilt University in Nashville. No one would buy it if it were put up for sale other than the university and their hospital basically helps run it already. Then where would veterans go. They pay for 100%v of my healthcare, my sons, my daughter, my daughter-in-law, and will soon take over for my son-in-law.

No one in the government would cut their own throats to cut these hospitals. You need to lay off the drugs before they rot your brain.

Newsweek was part of the big lie about Biden's mental health. Why does the left double down on the freaking lie? It's insanity.

Pssst. DOGE has no authority to cut anything. It’s not an actual Governmental Agency.
