His argument is that the 1st grader should not have been in that classroom, because he had "choked out" his teacher in kindergarten.

Maybe he is right, but he offers no alternative. He's an educator, but not in Special Education. In SpEd, we try not to just say "don't do ________." We say "Do _________ instead of ___________." So instead of having him in that classroom, we should . . . what?

What say you? What should be done with students who show violent bevavior toward teachers and peers?

Please take into account the IDEA and all other laws protecting student's rights. As far as I know, there is no movement to repeal them, and repealing them is part of neither party's platforms, so we are stuck with them.

Answer in the real world, is what I'm asking.

The child probably needs to be removed from whatever it has that call themselves "parents".

It needs a life with some structure.

It's shocking, but I think we'll soon need the equivalent of the old "reform schools" for any child who has violent tendencies that it can't control.

He’s absolutely correct that the child should not have been in the schoool at all. I could give you some alternatives, but you probably wouldn’t like them so I won’t waste my time… public education should be for the children of TAXPAYERS who can act reasonably enough to get their education without adversely impacting the education of the other students. Period.

The lil' bastard should not have been in a classroom with other students, as a danger to teachers and students, alike, after his choking a kindergarten teacher until she couldn't breathe, the year before. I support the $10 Million Dollar judgment in the teacher's favor for the principal's for "reckless disregard for the human life", as she is now facing 8 felony counts for this same reason.

Oh I would probably agree with your alternatives. But i'm guessing I would have to point out that they are impossible under our current laws.

Yet, there is absolutely no movement to change those laws. And neither political party ever mentions changing them.

We are stuck with them because the proponents of such laws are single issue voters with large advocacy organizations.

Point being when an educator does something that seems bizarrely counterintuitive and foolish, familiarize yourself with the laws that educator is working under before you criticize him or her.

Tragically, a child will have to die for this to happen. At the hands of a special ed student I mean. Either a child or a teacher--die. And then the incident has to be told faithfully.

IDEA has all our hands tied. Kids are committing actual felonies in schools--FELONIES--and we just say they're "dysregulated" or having "big feelings".

The other option is that teachers could actually start calling 911 instead of messing around. That might happen too, and I hope it does soon.
