One of those mysteries that will never be solved my friend. When we lived out on the mountain, access to our home was via State Road North 14, a four lane highway off of I-40 between the interstate and the turnoff to the ski basin. So I watched the state come in and paint beautiful new striping on the pavement, much appreciated when you drive at night and there are no street lights out there.

The following week the state resurfaces the pavement.

Sounds like government work. After years of complaining to the city of Oakland, our street was repaved a few years ago. A week later, they dug it up to work on a sewer pipe. I supposed I should be grateful that they updated the sewer infrastructure... but really, nobody could coordinate the scheduling of these in a better order?

I don't remember if I ever took geometry in high school, algebra but not geometry. I know I didn't take it in college.
I had both in high school as requirements back then. I loved geometry and have had many uses for it over my lifetime. Algebra not so much.

I was more human sciences, arts and humanities. I think I've mentioned before that I aced algebra in HS and college but to this day I can't do a single algebraic equation........
I do remember now that I did take geometry in HS but hated it. Probably why I forgot........ I think I passed with a C or D.........

I barely made it through freshman algebra but got an A because I was pleasant to the teacher and almost nobody else was. I didn't think in algebra, didn't like algebra, but did like the teacher. The only algebra equation I remember and one I often use is ratios,

Our son is a professional engineer not long ago awarded the top employee honors by Phillips Petroleum. But he almost wasn't when he flunked Calculus I twice. He was about to give up when I urged him to get a good tutor. That made the difference and once he was able to think in calculus he aced it and also made A+s in Calculus II and III. I asked him a few years ago how much he used calculus in his job and he replied not at all. He tested himself to see if he would still do and and he could. :)

My high school had Algebra I, Geometry, Albegra II, and Calculus for the math inclined.
I don't remember if our high school had calculus. I know we had Algebra I & II, geometry and trigonometry. As I was a journalism major--I knew I would be from Junior High (middle school) on--I only took Algebra I and Geometry in high school. My university required no math for my double major (Math and English) so I didn't go beyond that.
