USAID: biggest scandal in US government history?

PBS is non-profit (similar to the BBC in Britain) is not funded through advertising and that enables it to avoid the bias that arises from that model. ESPN is not a non-profit, again why am I always the one that has to tell you these things?

CPB was created by congress in 1967, they do popular shows like this:

Why don’t they have ads instead of taking tax dollars..we have hungry people in the streets, we don’t need to fund reruns of Bob Ross

Because when you rely on ads you are beholden to the advertisers, if you can't attract advertisers you can't raise the money. To attract advertisers you must offer them an audience and if that audience isn't interested in the advertisers products then they wont watch.

Trying and get a copy of Manufacturing Consent, as Chomsky says that "TV stations are a business and the business is to see audiences to advertisers".

So in such a model we might see for example no NOVA programs about say climate change or solar energy and so on.

Being funded publicly eliminates the bias that can arise from an ad based model.

So you do think PbS can attract advertisers? Why are we bailing them out then if they suck so bad?

So now pbs is beholden to govt, you think that’s a good thing?

Any TV station can attract advertisers if the station is attracting audiences desirable to those advertisers. But that always end up with the TV programming aligning with the needs of the advertiser.

There is no "bailing out" the operation was never bailed out, it was setup by congress for the specific purpose of producing shows and material for the American public that would be harder to make under an advertising model because there's no commercial pressure dictating the kinds of shows.

I think PBS is a very good thing, I watched it a lot when I arrived here from Britain as an immigrant in 2001.

What did you watch?

If a company like Chrysler wants to advertise on TV the TV station needs to attract affluent viewers with a decent income. They will therefore produce shows that attract that kind of viewer. With PBS they can make a show that does not care what advertisers want,
What did you watch?
News hour, NOVA, Journey to America, Nature, shows about art, architecture, wild life.

Tv stations air shows, if the shows are good, people watch them…advetisors then come to show their ads to the people

Shows that suck, need bailouts from tax payers because nobody watches them

Would you pay to advertise your products on a TV channel who's audience were unlikely to buy those products?

The content is designed for the public not the advertiser seeking a demographic, are you really this unfamiliar with this subject?

Well it doesn’t take much to put CNN to shame.

Newshour shouldn’t need tax payer bailouts id people were watching it
It's not a bail out any more than the Coast Guard is a bail out or the FAA is a bail out or NTSB is a bail out or school buses are a bail out. These are all ways of spending public money in ways that benefit the public, I don't know why you're struggling with this so much, it's the public's money let them enjoy benefits from it.

Getting a benefit from money you have supplied is not a bail out, that's private industry you're thinking of (40% of all new drug costs are from public funds).

Of course not

Sounds like PBS has an audience base, that advertisers would want to reach. All the more evidence we don’t need to fund them with tax dollars that could be used to help fight against the exploration of illegals or to fight terrorist, like Hamas

Those are govt agencies not a tv station. Why do you think we need a state run tv station??

For the same reason we have a state run anything, to provide some benefit to the people who pay all the tax in the first place!

Your problem here is you have zero credibility because Musk has zero credibility
Your belief in anything we are doing is unnecessary. We dont care what you believe or dont believe. Your voice no longer matters in this country and it wont matter for 4 years at a minimum. Democrats have been dismissed by the nation. Your ideas suck. What democrats believe is always stupid as **** and everyone is sick of your party. :dunno:
