Supreme Court again upholds Illinois assault weapons ban

So that's that. The Supremes also upheld Illinois' ban on high-capacity magazines.

Of note: The Supreme Court 's order Thursday did not have any dissents noted.

No dissents?!? Whoa! Clarence must have been away touring the US in his RV or something...

Background: The legislation came after a gunman used a legally purchased assault weapon to kill seven people and injure dozens at a Fourth of July parade in Highland Park last year.

  • The law bans the sale of dozens of assault weapons, including the AR-15 style weapon used by the Highland Park gunman, restricts high-capacity magazines, requires current owners of the prohibited weapons to register them with state police and expedites universal background checks.

NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

Axios lies again.

The Supreme Court did not uphold the law (ban), they simply refused to hear the matter. And since the law ... which is set to take effect on Jan. 1, they probably should not have as no one has yet been hurt by the law.

After the law goes into effect, we'll see if another request for cert is made by someone who is harmed by the law as violating their Second Amendment rights.

The Court will eventually strike down state AWBs – the conservatives are just going through the judicial motions to create the façade ‘due diligence’ when they do strike down the bans.

And as usual the hypocrisy of the right is on full display – so much for conservatives being ‘advocates’ of states’ rights and opposing legislating from the bench and tyrants in black robes ignoring the will of the people.

The conservative court just upheld a state AWB, with no dissents.

Wake up to reality.
