US Manufacturers Warn Trump Tariffs Will Bring Higher Prices, Not More Jobs: Survey

Conservatives/Republicans before Trump: “Taxes are bad!”

Conservatives/Republicans after Trump: “Taxes are good!”

A tariff is not a tax you fucking moron..

I have a choice not to buy something .

.
And if you buy a vehicle built here...........it's not applied................Only those abroad get hit............kills their sales and not companies here........The last battle over this was Quotas long ago................and that is when the competitors overseas started building plants here............putting Americans to work.............

They did it to avoid the quotas.............

NO, the number one reason why companies go out of business....They listen to a liberal union worker who overpromise the goods without finding out if the company can support it..
There are many reasons cited by those in this field, with no distinctive definition. The one you cite is not commonly mentioned, and most businesses don't have a union attached to them.

Trump is on target to restore America back to the sanity before 4 US idiot presidents gave China unrestricted access to our massive/valuable MARKET, while our exporters to China were blocked with 25% tariffs. The solution for US manufacturers in China, facing exporting becoming no longer economical, is to move back to the US, thereby

1. Avoiding the US tariffs

2. Avoiding the heavy shipping costs

3. Taking advantage of the new, much lower corporate tax

4. Taking advantage of the new, much reduced level of business regulation.

5. and realizing that Chinese wages are far higher now than they used to be.

The reasons for US manufactures moving overseas have largely dissipated, and the main thing keeping many US manufacturers there is simply economic inertia. It does cost money to move, but over the long run, it's now advantageous for these companies to do that ASAP.

I don't know how this craziness started exactly, but my best guess it was from a weak president (Bush 41) trying to secure US safety from China nuclear weaponry.
No. They haven't. It doesn't matter how much China pays for labor, it will never be close to the costs for U.S labor. Their lax enviro issues are also a factor, even though trump's EPA is incompetent.

trump doesn't understand much about the economy. He can't just run up debt, and walk away from his obligations in search of Russian financing. He believes that trade is a zero sum game, so he imposed tariffs in an effort to level what he perceives is the playing field. He didn't do it because he believes that it will bring back jobs. That's not what his tariffs will do.

If he wanted to use taxes to repatriate jobs, his tax policy would have given severe cuts only to companies that bring jobs back, or continue to manufacture here.

Tariffs don't bring jobs back in the short term. They destroy economies, as prices rise on goods while the target of the tariffs simply skirt same by shipping to a country not covered under the tariffs, before shipping to the U.S.

Obama's tax on Chinese tires didn't bring tire manufacturing back. I increased the purchase of tires from other countries, while adding 30% to what we paid for rubber.

It's negotiation.........Hard ball negotiation..........forcing concessions from other countries..........and pointing the finger at currency manipulation.........stealing intellectual property...........

You want to do something about it........you have to challenge it......and tariffs are part of that equation........China and Japan were banning beef sales in their countries before Trump.........this went on for over a decade.............That is over..............just an example and that is even before we went to the mat........

It worked for 200 years doing this until some big dummy said it was broken.

Nobody wanted U.S beef because of mad cow disease. We always put profits first, and some genius decided that feeding agricultural waste to cows would be a good idea.

Now that U.S beef is 'safe', China has been taking a small amount, in exchange for flooding our market with their tainted chicken. The rest of your claims re. tariffs have no merit, as we will see in January when trump's tariffs bump up to 25%

They used that excuse for over a decade.........BS............That was a temporary outbreak and was dealt with......they used it as an excuse to ban our products as a form of Protectionism...............

Did the mad cow disease last 14 years............NOPE.

There are good taxes and bad taxes.. Of course shit for brains like you would rather end up being a slave to the Chinese, so who gives a shit when Obama sold US to them. Now we have a real deal fighting for US , and all you can do is bitch and moan....
Capitalism is Useless to the right wing.

Ahhh....'protectionism'. Is it bad or good? Know why we pay such high tariffs on foreign pickup imports from Europe? Because we flooded their market with our cheap chicken decades ago.

Pick a side. Protectionism is either good, or bad. You can't have it both ways.

So you've got investments or stock overseas ? Well, nobody could have predicted that a president would come along who would fix the export/import problem. It's not going back to how it was, so sooner companies come back, better it will be for them and all of us.

As for the "prices rise on goods" you mention, a few college kids could cure you of that scam, but earlier post should have been enough. Those who dispute it, do so just because they want to.

Correct. Tariffs have long been US policy, and the US wouldn't have become the world economic power it did without them.

The trade war will range longer than January. Tariff opponents typically point at individual battles. Battles are only pieces of wars.

After 30 years of the world making trade war on us, while we sat idle and smiled, we now protect our businesses, workers, and economy with tariffs. Better that than continuing to foolishly give China et al unrestricted access to our market, while they block us out if theirs.'

There never was any reason for this ridiculous relationship. We in the US hold the high cards. We have the large, wealthy market. Hundreds of millions of consumers$$, that no other country in the world has. When you have a market like we do, you don't kiss their ass. They need us more than we need them. Anybody don't believe it ? Take a walk through Walmart some time. Check out 100 items on the shelf. How many say Made in China ? 80 ? 90 ? Proof is on the shelves.

Which is why you negotiate............Protectionism is them blocking Beef sales............

Protectionism is them putting high tariffs on our auto's..........Yes...it works both ways.........but as I said they are close to going Zero on autos.............
