US flight delays near 7,000 as government shutdown hits Day 27

If they can't pass a CR, how can they pass a budget?

Your contention is that prices won't rise if the government more heavily subsidizes the cost? I've got news for you. People utilize more services when they don't pay anything or very little. Ask any doctor and they will tell you that Medicaid patients are often the most demanding because they aren't paying for the service. This increase can push prices higher. If consumers don't feel a raise in prices, providers and insurers are very likely to raise prices. I will agree that some of the healthcare price increases are for reasons not related to subsidies, but to pretend that subsidies don't affect prices, even if indirectly, is incorrect.
My contention is that you cant show me any escalation in pricing after ACA vs before ACA. I even provided you the graph so you didnt have to research it.

We don’t have to pretend or project. We have the numbers. You want me to attach it again? Show me please. It’s a basic request for you to back up your claim.

Not sure blowing up the filibuster is the wise thing to do

Your misrepresenting the results. I'm not talking about overall health care costs. I'm talking about the rise in premiums within the ACA versus the private market.

"Over the last 10 years, ACA benchmark premiums increased ~75–85%, while employer coverage rose ~50–55% (family) and ~50% (single)."

Why do you think that is the case?

Flight delays continue to increase as more and more controllers and airport workers are forced to call in sick - as they are not being paid. secen thousand flights were delayed yesterday.

US flight delays near 7,000 as government shutdown hits Day 27

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -U.S. air travel turmoil deepened as nearly 7,000 flights were delayed nationwide on Monday, with air traffic controller absences surging as the federal government shutdown reached its 27th day.

The Federal Aviation Administration cited staffing shortages and imposed ground delay programs affecting Newark Airport in New Jersey, Austin Airport in Texas and Dallas Fort Worth International Airport on Monday. Flights in the southeast were delayed earlier because of significant staffing shortages at the Atlanta Terminal Radar Approach Control.

Roughly 13,000 air traffic controllers and 50,000 Transportation Security Administration officers must work without pay after a budget impasse between Republican President Donald Trump and congressional Democrats triggered the shutdown.

The Trump administration has warned flight disruptions will increase as controllers miss their first full paycheck on Tuesday.

More than 8,800 flights were delayed on Sunday.
All Dems have to do is stop filibustering it.

It has the votes to pass.

But we all know the real reason they want to keep the government shut is to cause social upheaval. They want welfare recipients rioting. They want to punish military soldiers by not paying them. They want air traffic control chaos. All so they can blame President Trump.

The way you phrase something doesnt change it. The healthcare subsidies will be ended by this CR. The Democrats are standing up for them. The GOP is opposing them. In about 4 days the US will get its new healthcare rates and it will be a reality. The GOP will be hung with those increases so it doesnt matter when the CR passes.
Why should we keep subsidizing health insurance?

People need to see the real cost of Obamacare. Maybe then we can repeal it.

Guess it's time for the Democrats to compromise and re-open the government on the CR.

when were the the COVID subsidies scheduled to end when the original COVID subsidy for the ACA was implemented by the Dems during the Biden admin ? the way you phrase something doesn't change what is happening .. the subsidies were to be temporary and expire .. the left lies .. the ACA has driven the cost of healthcare through the roof ! and now Dems have shut the government down and are willing to let millions go hungry if they don't get their way even though they lost the election .. why wont your communist leaders vote in favor of a CR ?

Good question.

1. Wages are up 50% over 10 years so the employer coverage for family and single that you listed have kept up with inflation.

2. As for the ACA premiums, though, they spiked much more sharply in the middle of the decade — largely because of Republican actions in 2017–2018 that destabilized the individual market. Congress eliminated the individual mandate penalty and the Trump administration cut off federal “cost-sharing reduction” (CSR) payments that helped insurers lower out-of-pocket costs for lower-income enrollees. To cover those lost subsidies, insurers raised benchmark premiums dramatically in 2018, creating that big step-up. Since then, ACA premiums have actually leveled off or even declined slightly in real terms under the Biden administration once the market stabilized and enhanced tax credits returned.

Doesnt change my post. After Nov 1st the GOP will be hung with the new rates - open government or not. The federal workers you are talking about dont have to worry about their healthcare, just like the politicians dont.

You are ready to fire all of them anyway and you hate unions so why do you care what some union person for federal workers said?
Federal employment is juiced mostly from Progressive politicians and then reduced as we go from crisis to crisis. The employment is good for the most part. This is a fact of life.

We are supposed to believe that insurers won’t charge more if the government is picking up the tab for the rise in cost? Market forces cease to exist in this market? Unless the government is controlling the insurance companies(the ultimate goal of Democrats and the ACA), they WILL raise prices as long as they know they have a blank check from the federal government who will continue to enhance the subsidies to keep up. They are betting on the COVID enhanced subsidies now. If the increases are not paid by the federal government, they would lose a lot of customers as the increase would be passed along to them. I can guarantee you that they would eventually lower prices if the government didn’t subsidize.

The federal share of healthcare spending has grown in the last decade. That implies that the government is paying a higher percentage of any increases in cost vs the consumer. Insurance companies are well aware of this.

I showed you the medical expenses havent gone up any faster after ACA than it did before ACA. Then you diverted to premiums which were only impacted by Republican repeal of key ACA features. The medical community isnt raising prices any faster than they did before ACA regardless of your misperceptions. I have shown you actual numbers. You just post your opinion - like above. Have some pride and do some work to support it or keep your opinion to yourself. Your opinion carries no weight with me. Your proof of facts does however. If you ever showed any.

Again, you are spinning.

Prices have risen faster in the ACA than they have for private healthcare plans. That is a fact. Also a fact is that government spending increased dramatically in 2021 when enhanced subsidies were implemented under ARP.

It’s a pretty simple concept that is not debatable. Insurance prices are higher and are rising faster inside the ACA than in company sponsored plans, despite having a larger base of participants in the ACA vs any singular company. The reason for the difference is the government subsidies. Plain and simple.

Sure its a simple concept. Overall prices are going up in a straight line: Debunks your claim ACA is raising prices.

Prices for ACA premiums have only gone up faster during the 2017-2018 time period when the GOP repealed the mandate and low income funding. Those premiums have nothing to do with medical costs rising.

You my friend have lost this argument. You'll need some real data to convince anyone reading this that you know what you are talking about.

Why are premiums in the ACA rising so much this year?

You are trying to shift away from your initial claim that the ACA raised medical costs. Good idea that is a lost cause.

But let me clear up something since I already answered that.
  • Obamacare expanded coverage to 25M+ people with no surge in overall health costs.
  • 2017–18: Trump killed the mandate & cost-sharing payments → premiums spiked.
  • 2021: Biden restored & expanded subsidies → premiums fell again.
  • 2025 GOP budget ends those subsidies to fund tax breaks for the top 1% → premiums rise again.
I hope that clears things up for you.

If they can't pass a CR, how can they pass a budget?
EXACTLY! Even if they pass a CR, the democrats would NEVER allow Republicans to pass their Appropriations or Rescissions Bills. Thune needs to go nuclear or the Trump agenda is DOA.
