There's a trick to Healthcare costs and insurance....Access to affordable health insurance is a huge issue for many working people. Deductibles aren't coming down. Thats a big issue for working people and one our politicians seem unable to relate with. Theres a disconnect there.
Name unborn children on your policy....you really don't even have to name them. "Unnamed, unborn child" is what I listed my son as when I got a job with insurance. He was covered that way long before he was born and the cost was practically nothing....like most dependant children. My wife covered herself.
And your wife is not legally pregnant until an OBGYN actually declares her to be pregnant. Meaning you can manipulate the insurance and premiums up until you actually see the doctor.
Most people get stuck paying cash for the newborn child's medical expenses who has zero medical coverage....and that can add up very quickly. If that baby cries too loud or not loud enough they wanna run some tests.$$$$...or give them an extra shot just to be sure.$$$$ Or put them under a blue light or blue blanket$$$$$$$.
Nevermind that $$$$$ crib you just assembled last week with crappy directions and nonstandard parts no one could understand....then came putting in that super expensive car seat with electronic everything.....that somehow requires an act of congress to get it buckled in.
Then comes that nurse teaching lactation....
Then the pediatrician bills for saying "yep, it's a baby" then the pediatricians nurse gets to bill you too.
However....listing an unborn child as well as having your wife double covered with medical insurance (yours and hers) and it won't actually cost you anything out of pocket for medical bills except for insurance premiums. And if you strongly suspect that she is pregnant due to positive pregnancy home tests or IVF treatments....
Get her double covered as well as the unborn child.
The biggest thing to worry about then is filling a closet at home with diapers....every coupon and sale on them becomes important that whole 9 months she is pregnant. So that AFTER the baby is born and all the other little expenses keep you down you don't need to buy diapers immediately every week...you might get enough to last you 9 months to a year. They do not spoil and they are usually good about swapping out sizes at the stores in case your baby grew too big too fast.
