It's interesting how these Christians don't want to be called Arabs. I would imagine that the other Christians living in countries where the Arabs invaded, such as Egypt, don't want to be called Arabs either.

UPDATE: Israel Today was contacted by Christian leader Shadi Haloul to request that we break with mainstream media norms and stop referring to himself and other members of the community as "Arabs."

Haloul explained that if any ethnic label is to be applied to the indigenous Christians of Israel, "Arameans" is more suitable than "Arabs." Indeed, as Haloul and others have pointed out repeatedly, Christians were in the land long before the Arab Muslims invaded.

Haloul was previously interviewed by Israel Today and spoke of his effort to revive the Aramaic language and help give local Christians a new, or rather renewed identity separate from that of the Arab Muslims.

Israel has always used the term Arab because it does not want to admit that they are Palestinians.

Why are you dragging Israel into this article? The article is about a priest saying that the Cristians are not Arabs because they were there before the Arabs invaded. Don't you have anything to say about his son being beaten, or is that OK with you?

Israel occupies Nazareth.

Israel calls them Arabs even though that might not be true.

It is common for them to refer to themselves as Palestinians.

Israel inserted itself into this.

Still nothing about that kid being beaten up? It sure looks like you have no sympathy for him. Maybe you feel that it was OK for him to be beaten up for what his father believes in.

Everyone should be allowed their opinion. People might debate and try to convince them they are wrong, but they should not be physically assaulted.
