yeah, they had the same concerns about Jina invading their markets with predatory practices and forcing EU firms to give up IP for access to Jina. But they cut a deal in late spring. There are still tensions, but we'd be better off in the same deal as the EU is in. In a sense, Xi did a Nixon and played the EU card on us, and Nixon playing the Jina card on the Soviets. We'er the economy on the outside.

I don't have an economics or even history degree, and admittedly I've only followed this closely since Nixon. But imo it takes about two years for a potus's policies to start having an effect, and even then there's the fed. Ideally, they work in cooperation.

They did not with HW after he did the savings and loan bailout, and Greenspan arguably cost HW a second term. Although that was not his only problem, but still the S&L bailout paid for itself. More importantly, Nixon forced the fed to have cheap money even after he devalued the dollar to combat OPEC, and keep an econ expansion going. Not surprisingly, we had hyperinflation that Keynesian economics could not solve because Keynes thought free market govts/economies would behave cooperatively. OPEC did not. Carter abandoned Keynes and started a monetary recession. Reagan doubled down.

Trump is at odds with the Fed, even though he picked the chair after denying Yellen a new term. His tax cuts, spending and Tariffs are ALL inflationary. For years we asked "where's inflation?" We found it with Trump who had to delay his tariffs to prevent Holiday shopping price hikes, and he's asking the Fed for yet cheaper money and to buy more federal debt with …. made up money.

Tariffs may finally bring on a recession and end to the 10 year expansion. That will kill any inflation. But the fed has only limited ammo left to cut rates and buy bonds … the price of which may be increasing anyway .. in which case the Fed CANNOT buy bonds because it would be inflating the market price.

Miss Graham is stockpiling AR-15s and ammo.

We're at full employment, the Fed is lowering rates, sure we have volatility, but most investors ignore volatility and focus on the long term growth. We're in the longest expansion in history, so a short recession isn't a bad thing, look at the dip the Fed caused last December, no big deal.

China is hurting from the tariffs, parts of Europe may already be in recession, the US consumer is the strongest economic force on the planet at the moment, and we are all paying more for most of what we buy because of the tariffs. You may as well spend it because you can’t get a decent return buying a bond.

The US GDP was 19.5T in 2017 and $20.5T in 2018, it should be even higher in 2019. The Dow fluctuates, no big deal, but the long term trend is up.
The DJIA is shown above, and except for the "boneheads" raising rates too fast at the end of 2018, the Trump economy is still chugging along.
If Trump can get the US and Chinese globalists to part company that would be a good thing, China is becoming way too powerful, and Trump is the only president to do something about it.
