I had planned to visit Israel, the Occupied Territories and then Egypt etc but the war made it at least inadvisable.

I did, however spend a little over a month in and around Palestinian refugee camps where I met numerous Nakba survivors who shared their memories and old photos of former homes, farms, olive groves and murdered family members.

Since I just had a small backpack, sleeping bag and very little money, I found shelter when and where I could with people who gave me rides and other locals along the way.
It was not unusual to go for weeks without a word of English being spoken.

I rarely used public transportation but walked and hitch hiked throughout Turkey, Iran, Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon visiting various archeological sites and spending time with the local population.

I wasn't serious about the "bus ride" but simply feel that you could not refrain from condemning Netanyahu's genocide throughout the Occupied Territories if you had more than a cursory knowledge of current living conditions among Palestine's long tormented native residents.
