Yeah it's a bit ridiculous considering that Russia has untapped mineral wealth of approximately 100 T in the rest of its geography. They didn't need to lose 120,000 soldiers to get mineral wealth they already had.

I suppose the theory of Moscow's thirst for expansion could play in here but the only consistent theme that has any real credibility is NATO'S thirst for expansion... The many broken promises that they would not try to expand on Russia's borders and the absolutely evident reality that Ukraine slowly but surely being transformed into a launch-point for the future invasion of Russia.

And now Biden has just advised Zalensky to change his military Conscription rules to expand his army because 70,000 dead Ukrainians isn't enough to protect the US Congress' favorite money laundry.

No they don't. Russia does have a lot but not enough to offset the resources of Ukraine and other former Soviet states. That is why Russia seeks to retake those countries and control them. Their goal is to control the energy and mineral market of Europe. And keep countries with a lot of oil, gas, and other resources from joining NATO.

However you're ignoring the obvious dilemma....who is it that wants those minerals? NATO.... that's who....and they don't care how many Ukrainians have to die for it.
