NATO was created in 1949 to stave of Russian Stalinist aggression during the "Cold War".

It was not designed tp threaten Russia, but to stave off any aggressive moves by Russia. Apparently you've forgotten the "Berlin Blockage, Soviet Invasion of Yugoslavia 1951, the Hungarian Uprising.
Unfortunately you omit the fact that NATO's original efforts were to stave off Russian aggression, which through the years has been successful to a point. Ut did not stop the attack on Georgia, nor the take over of the Crimea.
In addition few if any signatories to NATO lived up to their promised contributions in funding and maintenance of their military.

You make the claim about Russia and Europe's deal with gas. Perhaps you have forgotten that Russia had previous to the Ukraine war cut off gas to Europe to show of power in 2014.

It appears that Europe has learned it's lesson on trusting Russia to supply them with natural gas.
