Ukraine recognizes trump is playing along with Russia. They will go along without the US.

The US under trump is now a strong ally with putin and Russia. Ukraine recognizes that trump is playing along with Russia. Ukraine, and for that matter, Europe cannot count onp the US.

I knew trump would eventually side with his pal, Putin. I just did not think the shift would take place less than two months into his term.

First Orban addressed CPAC. Next it will probably be Putin addressing CPAC. Maga seems to be okay with inviting Putin to the WH.

We are well on the way to becoming an Authoritsrian State. Not much can stop trump....

Zelen$ky showed up dressed like a clown to meet the President of the Untied States. Trump should have sent him home and told him don't come back until you dress properly

The Trump cult didn't criticize the president bringing his kid into the oval office wearing a T-shirt and baseball cap, for a meeting......................two clowns and one kid, who hates his name.

Yes, Zelen$ky dressed like a little boy for a formal meeting to discuss peace for his war torn country where maybe a million families have sons killed or wounded over the last 3 years

Personally, any other weapons we send should be to the Ukrainian people and let them sort out the next election

Zelensky always dresses like that.
He gave the reason.

You think he should change, just to meet the orange blob?

Not a US problem. They had plenty of time to build their own military after the fall of the USSR and they didn’t do it. If you can’t defend your territory you don’t deserve to have your territory. Plain and simple.
You talk like trump or poootin. There is very little difference between the two.

That’s a good thing so far as I’m concerned. The Democratic Republic that WAS the United States of America ended in 1861. Its last vestiges were crushed in the 1930s by FDR. We need an Authoritarian government to undo the crap that we’ve been saddled with for the last 160+ years.

If what Trump is doing results in the end of the war, why do you leftwingers object? That's my question.

Literally what I ended my post with.

NATO was created in 1949 to stave of Russian Stalinist aggression during the "Cold War".
See: Milestones in the History of U.S. Foreign Relations - Office of the Historian
It was not designed tp threaten Russia, but to stave off any aggressive moves by Russia. Apparently you've forgotten the "Berlin Blockage, Soviet Invasion of Yugoslavia 1951, the Hungarian Uprising.
Unfortunately you omit the fact that NATO's original efforts were to stave off Russian aggression, which through the years has been successful to a point. Ut did not stop the attack on Georgia, nor the take over of the Crimea.
In addition few if any signatories to NATO lived up to their promised contributions in funding and maintenance of their military.

You make the claim about Russia and Europe's deal with gas. Perhaps you have forgotten that Russia had previous to the Ukraine war cut off gas to Europe to show of power in 2014.
Russia-Ukraine Gas Dispute of 2014 and Current Implications
"In April 2014, for the third time since 2006, Putin declared in an open letter Europe faced an increased risk of another gas shortage if Ukraine did not pay its debt of around 2 million US dollars. In June 2014, Gazpron cut off its natural gas supplies to its neighboring country. Even though disputed by Russia, the Ukrainian prime minister, Arseniy P. Yatsenyuk believes that the most recent events are politically tied to the Russia's annexation of Crimea and its military aggression towards Ukraine. Yatsenyuk stated, "This is not about gas, this is a general plan for the destruction of Ukraine". [5] As of October 2014, no resolution has been made on the gas dispute with winter rapidly approaching".

It appears that Europe has learned it's lesson on trusting Russia to supply them with natural gas.

Democrats continue to spend tax-payer money like drunken sailors.. They complained about Trump spending from 2017 to 2020, but doubled up on spending to surpass a $33 trillion dollar debt/deficit.
It's imperative that government trim down to reduce the deficit. Obama created
the Office of Digital Service (DOGE).
See: https://crsreports.congress.gov/product/pdf/IN/IN12493
"U.S. Digital Service In 2014, following the Healthcare.gov rollout, the Obama Administration created what is now the legacy USDS within the EOP to improve agency digital services. In 2024, USDS employed approximately 220personnel serving one- to four-year terms, most of whom were hired using Schedule A excepted service hiring authority. The legacy USDS has been funded by the EOP Information Technology Oversight and Reform (ITOR)account, whose purpose is the “furtherance of integrated, efficient, secure, and effective uses of information technology in the Federal Government.” ITOR has received annual appropriations, and the OMB director has authority to transfer ITOR funds to other agency accounts. To supplement annually appropriated funds, in the EOP FY2025 budget submission, the Biden Administration requested authority for agencies to transfer to or reimburse ITOR for services rendered by the legacy USDS, up to $30million. Congress has not enacted this transfer authority."
NATO persisted in expanding Eastward even after the Soviet Union collapsed. Russia said for decades that it would eventually begin to mass troops if NATO kept encroaching into the states along the border and that's exactly what it did. It said this many time, the attack on Ukraine was fully expected, the US wanted it to attack if they had not, they would not have kept up with the provocation.

The US has (democrats and republicans alike) embraced the Truman Doctrine and trump now seems to be abandoning that, and that's a good thing.

I have to say I broadly agree with the Trump administration's change of policy with respect to Russia, I don't think its being implemented well at all, but the acknowledgement that Russia is not a threat is something long overdue from the United States.

We now need to see a similar approach to Israel, although I don't know if even trump has the strength to treat Israel as he's treating Zelensky.

Regarding Sachs:

Bolivia was second only to Chile as a laboratory of “neoliberalism”, the jargon for capitalism in its pure, Hobbesian form.

The Harvard economist Jeffrey Sachs designed the “shock therapy” that the IMF and World Bank administered in Bolivia, adding another dimension of poverty and suffering.

With the privatisation of the mines, tin finally collapsed, and the miners and their families headed for La Paz, settling on the bitter plain at El Alto, a thousand feet above the capital, without water and power and with little food.

Farmers forced off their land by IMF diktats followed them, and their mass migration was typical of that of millions driven out of secure work by the foreign managers of the “Washington consensus”, a fanaticism conceived at Bretton Woods in 1944 as a tool of empire. (Sachs sees himself as a liberal and is mentor to the gormless Bono, of Live Aid et cetera fame.)

Regarding Sachs:

Thanks for the 'Glimpse of Freedom' piece.

All progress is destroyed when the US meddles. We've seen Cuba held back for many years, but is finally being allowed to prosper from China's and Russia's help.

Social reform always works if it's given a chance.

You're becoming optimistic too fast my friend. America is fighting a war against Russia for a reason, and in spite of Trump's efforts (questionable), America loses to Russia if there is a peace deal that is at least partially on Russia's terms.

Notice how everybody is thinking that Trump will help to make it 'mostly' on Russia's terms. Do you really expect that America is going to accept defeat after all the colour revolutions that have led up to the final war for all the marbles.

Why has America poured hundreds of billons of $ into the war? You need an answer?
