This ridiculous war is entirely about NATO's Eastward expansion and it's non acceptance by Russia. It is only after all diplomatic efforts by Putin had failed (including several attempts since 2008 taking control of Ukraine's government) that he decided to solve it by military means. At first very successfully in regards to occupying/retaking Crimea in a more or less overnight strike. Then taking advantage of Ukraine's suppressive methods in Donbas and Luhansk he successfully stirred the existing unrest right down to a self-proclamation by these two provinces to be independent territories from Ukraine.Let's not get sucked into Putin's morass of lies about this war being between Russia and NATO or between Russia and the US. NATO is not fighting this war nor is it providing any material support to Ukraine's warm effort. Many NATO member states on their own initiative are supporting Ukraine, but the war is strictly between Russia and Ukraine.
The Russian invasion of Ukraine along with its violations of nuclear treaties, its heavy investment in deploying hypersonic missiles to try to gain an edge in a nuclear war, its frequent threats to use nuclear weapons not only in Ukraine but against the UK and Germany. its demands that NATO withdraw from eastern Europe makes it clear that Russia is a clear and present danger to Europe and the US and that no diplomatic end of this war will bring a lasting peace. As a result, support for Ukraine continues to grow stronger and is in no danger of slackening off in the foreseeable future.
Ukraine naturally wasn't willing to give up on it's "lost" territories and continued it's path towards NATO membership and to prepare for a war to retake those lost territories - being absolutely supported and inspired to do so by NATO. Selensky's election victory made NATO believe that everything was running now perfectly towards their aspired goal. So Putin again decided to make use of military force.
Just to solely blame Putin for this present war - doesn't hit the mark/truth at all.
The USA had attacked Iraq in 2003 proclaiming that they need to rid the world of a country/government that possessed WMD's endangering/threatening the USA and the world. (which we all know was just a lie). Did this illegal aggressive war-action result into any worldwide instituted embargo onto the USA? nope they got away Scott-free. And this has been realized by countries all over the world - especially by countries that are not politically depended onto the USA and NATO - such as Russia, China, North-Korea, Brazil, India, South-Africa and many others.
Putin attacked Ukraine since they are posing a threat, endangering Russia's political, military and economic safety and interests - especially/foremost in hindsight of becoming a NATO member. (and that is not a lie) - but it is clearly the case.
No doubt in my opinion that Putin dreams and desires a Russia, that possesses the power and influence towards it's neighbors of the long gone Czarist Russian empire. And that is something the USA and NATO are objecting to - and trying to make sure with their means at their disposal that this won't happen. Naturally a war in regards to Ukraine was inevitable. The major problem that NATO is facing now is that they where extremely ill prepared for that war - and still are, since Ukraine can't win this war without direct involvement from NATO.
Taiwan is about to become another Ukraine dilemma if the USA and it's allies pursue their present cause/agenda - so in the present world of agitation and inciting unrest, Ukraine is just the tip of an iceberg. and the world we live in, is the Titanic. So let's steam ahead full speed - right? after all the blue ribbon (aka democracy) is at stake. And if the worst should happen there is always a single person (aka the captain) to blame in order to make the masses feel content.
