I don't know the percentage but a lot of food stamp recipients are people who work. They just don't get paid enough to live on and low enough for public assistance.

This is a good reason why we need to increase the federal minimum wage in this nation. It wasn't increased in the Obama years so it's still at 7.25 an hour. Which is what the minimum wage is in states that don't have a state minimum wage which are probably all red states.

There are many companies that teach their new hires how to apply for public assistance. When those companies start paying people a living wage and give them enough hours of work to support themselves a lot of people won't need public assistance. Unfortunately I seriously doubt those companies will do this on their own, they will have to be forced by the minimum wage law.

We may have low unemployment but we have a wage gap that's so far out of balance it's going to take a long time to fix it.

No one gets "food stamps" anymore. Nothing paper is generated. What people now get is an EBT card which looks like a debit card. I suppose someone could copy that card but it still won't work without the state government turning it on and loading the legal amount to it. It's just a worthless piece of plastic.

So while it might be easy to make fake 20 dollar bills, it's not so easy to commit EBT fraud.
