We don’t. Trump is using the ENORMOUS leverage of the US to force Ukraine to come to the table to negotiate a peace deal. From the letter Trump read last night from Zelensky, it appears it has already worked. It is not feasible for the US to continue to fund Ukraine in this war against Russia. They will cede more land and we will be out many more billions. This war shouldn't and wouldn’t have started under Trump’s leadership, but we are where we are. The Ukraine will have to concede some of the land they lost and will have to pay us back for protection that kept them from losing everything. That is the way things work in the real world. The childish and naive foreign policy of the Biden Administration and virtually all Democrats, does nothing but cost us money and embolden aggressors.

Russia was the aggressor. I don’t think many disagree. The thing is, you can’t get a peace deal by insulting the side that holds the cards in a war.

Imagine a heavily armed guy(Russia) walks into a school and takes some kids hostage(Ukraine). A negotiator(United States) is sent in to negotiate a deal with the guy that saves the lives of the kids. Would it make a lot of sense for the negotiator to start insulting the guy and pissing him off or would it make more sense to attempt to talk some sense into him and maybe even make some reasonable concessions that ultimately ends up saving kids lives? Would it help, if during the negotiation, the kids were throwing rocks at the guy with the gun?

You guys have no clue how to negotiate. The Democratic and European strategy is wildly misdirected.
