U.S. colleges scramble after new Trump order on foreign students

Higher Ed is a product, and we have a lot of international students who want it.

A product they can consume via the internet from their home countries. You have no case here.
But they won't use it. They'll simply pay full tuition to European schools. Trump fucks us yet once again.

Oh no!!! Colleges won't get tuition from foreign students.....how will the nation survive?

You're argument makes no sense. It doesn't matter what country the foreign students live in if they are attending internet based classes. The OP's thread was doomed on post #1.

There are too many foreign students in the USA. Trump should crack down on student visas from hostile countries like China.

And the foreign students who are here should not be able to take STEM classes. STEM classes should be reserved for American students.

Why?

You do understand that these institutions of higher education have decided to go to online classes all on their own? Do you propose something to stop the University administration from making this decision

They will get MORE tuition from foreign students. Students that would scrape tuition but not have enough to live on now find they can stay with mom and dad in Shanghai and still get that Harvard or Princeton degree. The world is literally the campus.

Heaven forbid that students attend from their home countries at a fraction of the cost of living in the US. Mark my words only part of this is tuition, there's gobs more money the left doesn't want to lose on room and board.

You are aware that Trump had nothing to do with these schools going to all online classes.

OMG it burns it burns, facts. That was my leftist impression.

And another EO, that makes no sense. Is it because Trump is impotent to affect the opening of public schools under local control? Wants to destroy higher education? Is pissed at Harvard? This new order contradicts previous policy regarding Covid....what a mess.

Many U.S. colleges were scrambling on Tuesday to modify plans for the fall semester in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic a day after the Trump administration issued an order that could force tens of thousands of foreign students to leave the country if their schools hold all classes online.
The announcement blindsided academic institutions grappling with the logistical challenges of safely resuming classes, particularly after the federal government had granted exceptions to the rules limiting online learning for foreign students when colleges and universities in March rushed to shutter campuses and move to online classes as the pandemic forced lockdowns.

There are more than a million foreign students at U.S. colleges and universities, and many schools depend on revenue from foreign students, who often pay full tuition.
The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency said institutions moving entirely to online learning must submit plans to the agency by July 15. Schools that will use only in-person learning, shortened or delayed classes, or a blend of in-person and online learning must submit plans by Aug. 1.
Harvard as billions in endowments, and Americans are struggling to pay school loans, blacks in democrat run neighborhoods are Purposely uneducated so Democrats can control them! And you are worried about FOREIGNERS!
You are a Beyond anti-American. Make me sick

The for students will just enroll in schools in other countries. But you're probably good with that.

If the school is holding all online classes it doesn't matter to the school where the student lives. There is no benefit to living in on campus housing or across the street, or halfway around the world.

Why not? Do you have any vested interest in Yale making more money? If a Bangladesh student wants a degree from Harvard nothing else will do.

Can't they do them online in their own country?

I don't see a problem here, now no need for them to live in the USA.

It's another TDS thing

Why would foreign students need to be in the country if the classes are totally on-line?
Why do we have so many foreigners in our schools anyway? Shouldn’t those seats be given to Americans? To African-Americans?

Let's not go full crazy train.

Lol...no they aren't. They won't be going anywhere.
Thats too bad but I can live with a certain amount of residue knowing that new students will not be allowed in

then maybe we can grant waivers for s korean and japanese student, or maybe just waiver everyone except the chinese
There is no reason for a waiver. There are no classes to attend.

Why is this so hard to understand? There will be no physical classes. Instead of having classes limited by the number of seats, classes will number in the thousands. Literally limitless.
But will for students who are expelled pay tution?

Trump's admin is trying to force colleges to hold live classes on campus to open up schools. That's all that this is about.
Trump is trying to force no such thing. Trump wants schools open. He wants public schools open. This has nothing to do with universities like Harvard who decided to go all online. Why would anyone be expelled?
bs. He wants kids out of their parents houses and on campus. And this is one means he it trying to use. It will blow up in his face, because he's not only incompetent, he doesn't live in the same reality most people live.
You don't seem to be living in any reality at all. Trump is not opposing any school going to all online classes.

He does want primary and high school students back in classrooms. So do most parents who need to get back to work themselves.

As does the American Academy of Pediatrics who "strongly supports" school re-entry.
