I spend almost half of my life in Ukraine, оn my father's side, my ancestors lived in Ukraine way back in the 19th century. What is your qualification about the history of Ukraine? The name of the country that you heard once and that you can't find on the map?
Long before Russia's invasion of the Ukraine last year, I was very upset to learn that both China and Russia had killed masses of people--100 million in China during the WWII era when Mao knew the responsible countries of the world were busy fighting off Hitler's Germans or horrified to hear of the bombings of London, and hostile takeovers of several European countries by Hitler's Brown-shirters who were bloody hateful in their killings and brainwashed out the wazoo by Hitler's slick but pleasing words to the German people (with notable exceptions in the upper classes who were silenced by just about every political maneuver known to mankind.) For some reason, I wanted to know more about our ally in WWII, Russia, and why some prominent Americans couldn't stand Stalin, who was Russia's leader at the time who only intervened in the European brawl because he hated the Germans with whom Russia had a history in which they battled off and on with each other for almost a thousand years over Poland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania
et al from year one to the recorded millennia that followed. Russia hit the Ukraine with millions of deaths there from the thirties through WWII, taking advantage of the Western world's onus that seemed to be exclusively obsessed with holding the line on the Nazi nation whose majority believed Hitler's smooth talking, or at least wanted to believe in him. Big mistake. The Germans sank the USS Reuben James (DD-245) which was escorting Convoy HX 156, with a loss of 115 lives. Reuben James was the first U.S. Navy ship lost to enemy action during World War II and sealed the deal with American/European alliances against the Nazis.
I was just interested in why the Allies were less than friendly with Russia's Stalin, who was secretly starving out the farmers of the Ukraine with KGB ruthlessness of visiting each farm regularly to make sure there was no food in farm pantries, kitchens, and underground cellars. Millions were starved to death who weren't murdered outright by KGB agents from the thirties through WWII. Why Putin decided he would repunish the Ukraine in our lifetime, for freebies and power, I can't wrap my mind around. He can't seem to stop, although only 25% of the Russian people approve. Putin ought to throw in the towel, because his former allies are fed up with the hundred schools, libraries, and stores of every description that he has pounded with Hand-to-hand combat, supersonic missiles, and snipers. He's targeting civilians as well as going after Ukraine military that has defended as best as they can against the largest country in the world. If Putin doesn't knock it off, the Russians will be ruled by way of Kyiv after a humiliating defeat they are waging against their own Mother Russia. Not smart, Putin. Putin needs to have someone translate Kenny Rogers' song the Gambler.
So I wiil: Mr Putin:
Emphasis: Ya gotta know when to fold 'em.
