That's not true though. If you're making the argument that poverty equals more crime, then West Virginia would have the highest murder rates of any state. They don't. They do have areas that have issues with crime, particularly property crime, but violent crime is relatively low there, with a few exceptions. Huntington is one of those few exceptions, but it's more urban than most of the state.

It would be more accurate to say that urban living is more conducive to crime -- at least violent crime.

So, when considering that the black population is more urban, that might explain some of the discrepancy, but poverty or "lack of opportunity" really doesn't. Lack of opportunity or representation isn't really relevant overall anyway when considering that most states heavily employ blacks, particularly black women in various bureaucracies, like the DMV.

In addition to this, there are a multitude of federal programs that favor minority-owned businesses for contracts. Some outright require hiring minority-owned businesses.

From the sound of what they're saying, it’s as if crime is good—or at least nothing to be concerned about. But I wonder how the father of a little child who was killed on his front stoop by a drive-by shooter feels about that.

We Americans deserve a capital city that is not a disgrace. Before Trump tried to do something about it, I had just about given up on the inner city—especially D.C. I was in favor of moving the capital altogether, leaving all the problems behind, and ensuring that the next capital could not have any residential population.

The capital of the United States should be a garden spot. It should be something we can be proud of—not a place where people are beaten, mugged, raped, and killed on the streets, where babies are killed in their own homes by stray bullets.

I am not very partisan. I don't care who fixes the problem, as long as the problem gets fixed.

D.C. is the only city over which Trump has any authority—he only has jurisdiction over federal cities. And crime was already too high. It was already too unacceptable, and it’s been unacceptable for a very long time—ever since the 1960s.

I wish the Democrats had done something about it, but they just don’t seem to have the guts. They’re too afraid of making someone angry at them and losing a vote or two.
