Trump's deportation vow alarms Texas construction industry

Theres no reason why we cant have work programs, if we need the labor, as part of our legal immigration system. I'm all for it, I'd just like to find some way to limit the amount of wolves that are allowed through the boder along with the sheep. I'm sure you'd agree

The reason we don't have that is because too many employers don't want to pay a legal wage and taxes that go along with that. Not to mention worker protections.

I mentioned before that a mass deportation of migrant workers was going to cause the price of a new home to go way up, and everyone laughed at me. Was everyone laughing because they know that mass deportation was a campaign promise that is not going to happen?

If true, I'll laugh right along with y'all.
Migrants aren’t going to be deported

‘"It would devastate our industry, we wouldn't finish our highways, we wouldn't finish our schools," said Stan Marek, CEO of Marek, a Houston-based commercial and residential construction giant. "Housing would disappear. I think they'd lose half their labor." Talk of a mass round up comes as Texas is booming. Texas cities regularly appear on lists of the country's fastest growing communities, and construction cranes and workers donning safety vests are common sites in most major cities.

That Texas relies on undocumented labor is one of the state's open secrets, despite Republicans' tough-on-immigration stances. In 2022, more than a half million immigrants worked in the construction industry, according to a report by the American Immigration Council and Texans for Economic Growth. Nearly 60% of that workforce was undocumented.

"The state needs to leverage both U.S.-born and immigrant talent to fill construction jobs that power the Texas economy," the report notes. "It's not remotely practical to round up and deport everybody," said economist Ray Perryman, the president and CEO of the Waco-based Perryman Group.’

Oh, dear.

Wait until farmers have to pay $30 per hour to people picking crops. Going to be interesting.
Take a look at the real freaking world. Nobody picks cotton anymore. Farmers have gigantic machines (made in the USA) that pick crops. It's a real bad freaking argument to justify the tens of millions of illegal aliens that pay nothing in taxes and are clogging up the medical and criminal agencies of the United States to claim that farmers might have to pay criminals to get a crop. Kids are dying from fentanyl drugs. Young women are being raped and murdered by animals who are ignorant of the concept of crime and punishment.

Wisconsin’s Dairy Industry Relies on Undocumented Immigrants, but the State Won’t Let Them Legally Drive

Not sure about cotton but the produce industry is still largely hand picked. Expensive labor makes domestic food more expensive and has led to a record high food trade deficit.

Wisconsin is famous for dairy products and has the most up to date and inspected facilities in the Country. It's insulting to claim that Wisconsin dairy farmers depend on illegal aliens to produce milk and cheese. The source "ProPublica" is an advocacy group that supports illegal immigration.

Rather brave of this CEO to publicly admit he hires illegals.

We have "guest workers" laws that allow employers to bring workers in from low-paying states, at the employer's expense. If they truly get into a bind, the processes can be accelerated.

Such hostility.

There’s nothing inherently wrong with a desk job. Maybe we just don’t want to destroy our bodies and wind up on disability like so many blue collar folks.
College grads crying wet tears because they owe do much and make so little

Many of them still living with their parents

Better jobs like that, huh?

I don't get the 'living with their parents " thing and how that's a bad thing when young adults are living at home. Would you rather a 25 year old be married with kids? That doesn't work either. Never has.

It's just an ugly ignorant stereotype anyway.

At least they have jobs and not living off of welfare.

You’re the one who demands we all subsidize them with new taxes.

You wouldnt

Thats your problem

Maybe that generation wants to be 25 forever

But I dont think so

This is just you making excuses and blowing smoke

Of course any mature, self respecting 25-
year old wants to cut the apron strings

But for many they have been lured into worthless low paying sit-down jobs when they would have been better off learning a skill and working with their hands along with their brain

But now they are stuck and too proud or stubborn to admit they were wrong

Oh well

Not drawing welfare only because biden’s scheme to pay off student loans fell through

So you’re defending the welfare queens who have no jobs and attacking the tax paying college grads because of class warfare?
