A Department of Homeland Security memo "reveals a plan to dramatically increase the use of the U.S. armed forces on American streets in domestic law enforcement roles, especially in immigration, for 'years.'”

This document does giver "a glimpse into the thinking of top officials as they seek to involve the Defense Department more deeply in these domestic operations, and it has unnerved experts who believe it portends a frightening escalation,” The New Republic reported.

“The memo is alarming, because it speaks to the intent to use the military within the United States at a level not seen since Japanese internment,” Carrie Lee, a senior fellow at the German Marshall Fund, told TNR’s Greg Sargent. “The military is the most powerful, coercive tool our country has. We don’t want the military doing law enforcement. It absolutely undermines the rule of law.”

TNR reports that the “administration seems to be supercharging immigration ‘invasion’ agitprop to manufacture a sense of national trauma similar to the one that arose after the September 11 attacks. That led to another type of ‘war on terror’ hyper-militarization at home (as well as abroad). The administration seems determined to outdo that—this time against the new internal enemy.”

Joseph Nunn, counsel for the Liberty and National Security Program at the Brennan Center told Sargent, “Normalizing routine military support to law enforcement could create a kind of domestic ‘forever war,’ but one that is uniquely dangerous.”

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s brother, Philip Hegseth, who works for the Department of Homeland Security as a liaison officer to the Pentagon, as “including Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and several of his top advisers, Joint Chiefs Chairman Dan Caine, and NORTHCOM Commander Gregory Guillot. Staff include Phil Hegseth and acting ICE Commissioner Todd Lyons.”

It is The Daily Beast, reporting on the Hegseth memo, that referred to it as a “secret plan for years of troops on U.S. streets.”

Is this a way for Trump to turn America into a military police state? I find it alarming and believe it should send chills through all Americans.

Solution to ending more troops in our streets:
1. Stop the funding of the anti-ICE provocateurs (Antifa and Marxists) by the left.
2. Point out "criminal" illegal migrants to ICE and local law enforcement. By not helping get rid of the illegal migrant criminals, you are contributing to more victims (raped women, raped children, murder victims and armed robberies of your fellow citizens).
3. Stop falsely claiming that the opposition party in power is the equivalent of Hitler and his Nazis. We all know that's hyperbole. There are no gas chambers or huge cremation centers. Only some detention centers to house illegals until they can be processed back to their own countries.
The rampant hatred and calls to hit, shun, or turn away people voting differently and striving to stop allowing opposition parties to be in elections, demonstrates a clear anti-democratic mentality, which makes the claim, "we are trying to save democracy" a sham claim.

I swear, it's as if all the strongman/despot types throughout the last century wrote a how-to book or a ******* YouTube training system. The template sure is being followed, step by step. Even the useful idiots and cowardly legislators are doing their part.

Yet it is totally necessary thanks to the tens of millions of illegals Democrats let into our country.

I’m sure you’d rather have our military overseas fighting in more unnecessary wars. Too bad.

If the military is "doing the rule of Law" than they would be under same standards and restrictions as regular law enforcement officers (LEOs).

What undermines "the rule of law" is breaking our laws to allow illegal entry of foreign nationals (aliens)* into our nation. Especially when it appears they have been funded and aided in their migration and illegal entry into our country by foreign "interests" (nations, crime cartels, insurrectionist NGOs, etc.).

Currently we have an internal war created by the illegal "immigrants" and crime cartel members so it would be reasonable to have some military resources such as intel, recce, transport, etc. assisting Federal to local law enforcement in removing these illegal, criminal immigrants.

I'd favor going the next step which is to hit and obstruct, eliminate the supply chain~transit support that is bringing them to and across our borders.

BTW, 'The New Republic' and 'The Daily Beast' are hardly objective, unbiased, or honest news sources, despite their self-made claims of such. They are "pravda" from the Left and international socialism/communism agencies.

* = & the contraband, drugs, and human trafficking that accompanies such.

This is not a solution. It's idiocy.

Just because there are no gas chambers doesn't mean Trump isn't doing the same things Hitler and other dictators have done. If you want a solution, then ICE takes off the masks, identifies themselves, stop grabbing people off the street and sending them places without due process, and stops detaining American citizens or immigrants using the legal process to become a citizen.

So......you are for keeping the "criminal" illegal migrants in the U.S. so that they can create more victims.
If you claim they aren't given due process, that is wrong.
Here is due process for a citizen: 1. Being charged with a crime. 2. Arrested. 3. Appear in court for determination and sentencing if found guilty. 4. Sent to jail/prison.
Here is due process for an illegal migrant who committed a crime:
1. Charged by the "federal government" with a crime (being here illegally or being here illegally and committed a crime. 2. Arrested. 3. Appear in either a federal court or an immigration court (they're both actual courts) for determination and if deemed necessary, found guilty. 4. Sent to jail for an actual crime or sent to a detention center to await deportation.
Both the citizen and the illegal migrant are getting due process.

We are a nation at war with ourselves. We will not accept that fact, and still think the government is the cure, when actually it is the cause of many of our problems aided by our apathy and dependence. It is becoming extremely hard if not impossible to recognize mental health disorders today with the extreme reactions that are standard to the littlest things.

Democrats are always fighting for the criminals, themselves

Dude...I really wouldn't loose any sleep over it !

The troops would be under the UCMJ (Uniform Code of Military Justice) which is another world.

As for the military enforcing civilian laws that would be a real gray area. More than likely if the NG is called out bigtime a LEO would probably (IMHO) be assigned to platoons.

We used to call that the Uniform Code of Marsupial Justice in the navy. It even had an article ( 30 0r 32} that stated this covers anything not covered by the other articles.
