Our wonderful Pres.Trump has been a blessing to the nation. He is honest and forthright, basically a modern day George Washington. ...
You are absolutely correct. Trump is a modern day George Washington. But that is not a compliment. The reality is George Washington was both a terrible president, and a terrible military leader. He was convicted of war crimes during the French and Indian War, actually signed a confession to as much. And as far as a military leader, well let Thomas Paine take it,
I know also that had it not been for the aid received from France, in men, money and ships, that your cold and unmilitary conduct (as I shall show in the course of this letter) would in all probability have lost America; at least she would not have been the independent nation she now is. You slept away your time in the field, till the finances of the country were completely exhausted, and you have but little share in the glory of the final event. It is time, Sir, to speak the undisguised language of historical truth.
Basically, he had one battle victory, defeating drunk Hessians on Christmas Day. George Washington as a great general is a myth, just like Donald Trump as a great businessman, another myth. Until Donald Trump came along, George Washington was the wealthiest person ever elected president. Guess it was so long ago that we forgot the lesson the American people learned after Washington. Wealthy presidents don't care about the American people, they don't care about the American military. They care about one thing, THEMSELVES. Back to Paine,
Elevated to the chair of the Presidency, you assumed the merit of everything to yourself, and the natural ingratitude of your constitution began to appear. You commenced your Presidential career by encouraging and swallowing the grossest adulation, and you traveled America from one end to the other to put yourself in the way of receiving it. You have as many addresses in your chest as James II. As to what were your views, for, if you are not great enough to have ambition, you are little enough to have vanity, they cannot be directly inferred from expressions of your own; but the partisans of your politics have divulged the secret.
I mean dee-yam. I remembered Paine's letter to Washington, from a French jail. But that description of Washington could just as easily been used to describe the Donald. And like the Donald, George Washington used the presidency to enrich himself. You ever hear of the Whiskey Rebellion? The government slapped a tax on whiskey, mostly to buy up all the Continental Scripts, at full face value. Another story for another time. But the tax was a per gallon tax, until you got to something like five hundred gallons. Then it was just a flat fee. And who was the biggest distiller of whiskey at the time? Why it was George Washington.
Actually, old George wanted to create his own "kingdom". When he died, he owned more than 60,000 acres, most of it in West Virginia, I mean the irony is thick with his story. His intention was to proclaim it as his own country and he was to be king.
So yep, Trump is a modern day George Washington. In fact, Washington is the only president that was narcistic as Trump, as crooked as Trump, and Washington's cabinet was the only cabinet as corrupt as Trump's. At this point in history, they are bookends, and it may very well end that way, if Trump gets his way.
For those interested, Paine to Washington.
