Is Trump being investigated? Yes he is.
He can move from New York but his dealings are still there. Like valuating property at double the appraised value and getting millions in a tax break windfall.

Eric Trump was deposed on this last Monday.

"According to a new report from the Washington Post, a promise Donald Trump made 5 years ago to preserve the forest around his luxurious mansion in Westchester County, New York, got him a $21.1 million tax break. Now, an investigation is underway to determine if he inflated the value of the land."

“The size of Trump’s tax windfall was set by a 2016 appraisal that valued Seven Springs at $56.5 million — more than double the value assessed by the three Westchester county towns that each contained a piece of the property,” the Post reports. “The valuation has now become a focal point of what could be one of the most consequential investigations facing President Trump as he heads into the election.”

Not quite clear as to what the issue is here. Did the appraisal come in too high and Trump paid excess property taxes, which he was able to deduct?

As a former real estate appraiser, i can tell you that county land appraisals are incredibly inaccurate. County appraisers literally spend minutes on their appraisals, while all other commercial real estate appraisers spend weeks to determine their value. With an assistant, you can complete a commercial real estate appraisal with about 2 full weeks of work, though it's often a bit longer than that.

For example, in Texas...

On average for Texas in 2015, county appraisers had 3.4 minutes for a land appraisal. But the appraisers in Harris county only required less than 1 minute per parcel to appraise them at market value and equally. Keep in mind that they must value both the land and the improvement separately.

The Texas Comptroller website also revealed that 20% of the appraisal districts had no land appraisers at all. So how do you appraise the land without any appraisers?

Most appraisal district land values are not reliable given the limited resources to track value.

As it is the states duty to appraise and tax properties, was it the state that over assessed the values and collected more taxes than lawful? IF so, these people are trying to blame Trump for the states malfeasance.... Standard liberal ploy... blame the victim for the crime..

His quoted land value would have been based on a real appraisal. You dont just make up numbers and write them on a form. If there was a mistake, its the appraisers fault, not Trumps. By the way, Trumps appraisal was almost certainly done by his bank, not him. The bank hires the appraisers, so the property owner has no say or control over the appraisal whatsoever. Most of the time the owner doesnt even know the appraisal is being done, until after its done. They do them in secret specifically so the owner cant interfere with the appraisers.

I took a class on tax law.
It's the most confusing mess.
Figuring out the right forms to address whatever issue was highly subjective. There seems to be more than one way to file your taxes, and most people hire an accountant to figure out what your deductions are. I was audited 3 times, and I gave them every receipt I ever got. 10 boxes of receipts alone. They usually threw up their hands and only returned 3 boxes to me. They must have thrown the rest away. I think they quit less than halfway thru.
