There is an easy fix that is respectful, preserves a person’s dignity and rights without violating the basis for separating men and women in sports (which is the physical differences caused by biology). Trans athletes (a very tiny minority among trans people who are themselves a tiny minority) could compete against biological women, for exhibition only.
