The companies that benefited from this weren't American. But it was the World Bank that said "if you want the money, you need to privatize". And the Bechtel Corporation made money from this. Poor people ended up paying more for money so rich westerners could get richer, so the rich people in government could get more money to not make thing better for poor people.
The same thing happened with the dairy industry. Profits left the country, people paid more, were left with less, just so rich westerners could benefit from this.

Who is Vanguard? Well it's a US Asset management company.

Then another 8 US companies in the top 20 in the world, that's 15 of the top 20 companies owning shares in loads of foreign companies.

I could go on all day, finding the evidence of where the US makes its money. The British were paying the US back for WW2 well into the 21st century, even in WW2 the US was out to make money.
