I directly blame Trump and Musk for the magnitude of this disaster. They were warned that deaths would result from the cuts in our Weather Service. Never expected it to be this soon. This is Trump's true celebration of the 4th of July. Cuts to our disaster prevention, cuts to disaster relief, as extreme weather events are increasing at an almost exponential rate.

Actually you should think. It's not the severity of storms, but the ability to foretell severe storms.
That why the NWS used to launch dozens of weather balloons each day to see what's brewing in the atmosphere, so they can predict upcoming weather days in advance.

Floods don't come out of nowhere. And if you know where the warm and cold fronts are, their humidity, and how fast they're moving, you can predict how severe the rainstorm, and the duration.

They did give warnings, but it happened at 4am and the river rose double its size in 45 minutes. Anyone sleeping near it didn't have a chance.

The NWS didn't curtail weather balloons for want of helium.

Most of the weather balloon launches were DOGE'd away.

If NWS had been properly staffed, they would have predicted a heavy rainfall, and stagnant air masses, days, not hours before the storm hit. And warned of the likely hood of flooding when that happens.
