Trump says 8 European countries will be charged a 10% tariff for opposing US control of Greenland

I'm getting a little worried about The Donald. The level of bombastic buffoonery seems to be escalating, or at least becoming more significant. Low level is okay, he's getting the job done and that's all good. But this bit with Greenland is a little over the top.

What difference does it make who controls Greenland? If the Russkies attack are the Danes going to stop us from going there? Either Trump is grandstanding for a reason or he's getting old. The only reason I can think of why he wants "control of" Greenland is he's impatient with diplomacy and doesn't trust the Europeans.

And that's exactly the vibe he's emitting, which probably doesn't do wonders for our relationship with our allies. If he's grandstanding on purpose, then one must conclude this is the response he's trying to elicit. Europe sends troops, Danes and Canadians and everyone else gets mad... y'know...

I can't really figure it out.

(scratches head)

Can you?

More likely, something the Danes were working on, like a mineral deal with China or something along those lines. Or attempting to extort us to counter a deal the Chinese offered.

Have we really? We do have over a dozen intelligence agencies. Do you doubt their effectiveness? We haven't been there over 80 years because of terrorism. It is time to bring our people home, let the children off the apron strings and such. We have plenty to do in our own hemisphere.
Ye we have. The only time NATO had had to defend a nation in a war was when they fought with us in the war we started. Terrorists actually leave European countries to lauch attack. So it helps to have peope looking out. We don't have to do anything in this hemisphere.

Trump isn't getting anything done but digging a grave nd burying this cuntry in it. You idiots have worked to destroy this cuntry.

I wonder how long the E.U. will pay for their troops vacation in lovely Greenland?

So, it's pretty obvious by now that Trump sees using tariffs as a way of forcing people to do what he wants.

However, look at it from the other side. Dealing with the US is too much of a hassle. Go sell your products to those who are more stable, like China, or Mars or someone.

Trump is going to see trade reduced.

The UK helped the US get that oil tanker, in thanks, Trump flips the bird.

Trump is serious about the necessity of Greenland. We will see how this ends.

NUUK, Greenland (AP) — President Donald Trump said Saturday that he would charge a 10% import tax starting in February on goods from eight European nations because of their opposition to American control of Greenland.

Trump said in a social media post that Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Finland would face the tariff and that it would climb to 25% on June 1 if a deal is not in place for “the Complete and Total purchase of Greenland” by the United States.

The threat of tariffs was a drastic and potentially dangerous escalation of a showdown between Trump and NATO allies, further straining an alliance that dates to 1949 and provides a collective degree of security to Europe and North America. The Republican president has repeatedly tried to use trade penalties to bend allies and rivals alike to his will, generating investment commitments from some nations and pushback from others such as China, Brazil and India.

It was unclear how Trump could impose the tariffs under U.S. law, though he could cite economic emergency powers that are currently subject to a U.S. Supreme Court challenge.

Trump said in his Truth Social post that his tariffs were retaliation for recent trips to Greenland by representatives from Britain, the Netherlands and Finland and for general opposition to his efforts to purchase the semiautonomous territory of NATO ally Denmark. He has Greenland is essential for the “Golden Dome” missile defense system for the U.S., and has argued that Russia and China might try to take over the island.
No matter what trumps' fears are , aggression towards our allies is INSANE. He needs to be removed from office NOW !

There is nothing sad about this opinion. What's sad is a foreigner telling us how we should support a president who is destroying our cuntry.

Greenlanders consider the Danes foreigners. Now what?

The EU has troops?

I heard the Germans have one tank. That doesn’t work.
Maybe this is part of the problem. You guys have been so brainwashed that you think Europe as a whole has next to no military capability?

Europe as a whole has a large military budget. Much larger than Russia.

You guys have chosen to destroy relations with Europe because what? Because you think they don't respect you enough?

What allies? The Europeans are our allies as long as we are focused on their needs, but have no interest in our needs. The US needs control of Greenland to shore up the defenses of North America and northern Europe and to prevent China from acquiring Greenland's substantial reserves of rare earth minerals, and Greenland has no real value to Denmark except as a vanity project, but now our so called "allies" are threatening to go to war with the US to prevent US control of Greenland, which would benefit everyone.

So far, NATO has been all about protecting Europe, but what does the US get out of it? Nothing but complaints and insults. Let the Europeans fight their own wars. They are of no use to us.

That's great to hear. So now Europe doesn't need the US to help defend it anymore. Good bye, good luck. but if you are going to take on Russia without the US, you are going to have to manufacture another 5,000 thermonuclear weapons real soon to have a real deterrence against Russia nukes.

The tariff will be "due and payable", Trump says.

Trump STILL DOESN'T ******* KNOW WHO PAYS THE TARIFF.

25th Amendment, please.
Very few people will. Most people will simply buy less expensive substitutes, which will stimulate domestic manufacturers, creating more jobs and more tax revenues for us.
