Trump is serious about the necessity of Greenland. We will see how this ends.

NUUK, Greenland (AP) — President Donald Trump said Saturday that he would charge a 10% import tax starting in February on goods from eight European nations because of their opposition to American control of Greenland.

Trump said in a social media post that Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Finland would face the tariff and that it would climb to 25% on June 1 if a deal is not in place for “the Complete and Total purchase of Greenland” by the United States.

The threat of tariffs was a drastic and potentially dangerous escalation of a showdown between Trump and NATO allies, further straining an alliance that dates to 1949 and provides a collective degree of security to Europe and North America. The Republican president has repeatedly tried to use trade penalties to bend allies and rivals alike to his will, generating investment commitments from some nations and pushback from others such as China, Brazil and India.

It was unclear how Trump could impose the tariffs under U.S. law, though he could cite economic emergency powers that are currently subject to a U.S. Supreme Court challenge.

Trump said in his Truth Social post that his tariffs were retaliation for recent trips to Greenland by representatives from Britain, the Netherlands and Finland and for general opposition to his efforts to purchase the semiautonomous territory of NATO ally Denmark. He has Greenland is essential for the “Golden Dome” missile defense system for the U.S., and has argued that Russia and China might try to take over the island.

Trump's posturing about Greenland is all about theatrical negotiation. For those who have never played poker, it is a very effective tactic. The end result will be beneficial for the United States AND Greenland.

Don't buy Eurotrash goods and the tariffs won't effect you. Pretty simple. Any suppliers in the states that don't seek cheaper alternatives are only ripping the consumer off.
That's not how it works. Parts in American products come from Europe, and then the product price is increased because they have to pay more for the parts.

Good for Trump. The Danes would sell us out for a bent penny to the Chinese. Best to get this over with peacefully and move on to bigger things.
The only person "selling out", is your great leader.

The Danes suported the US in the first Gulf War, Afghanistan amd was part of "the coalition of the willing", remember that?

Now the US is threatening to take their territory.

Amd you have the gall to blame the Danes for it.

There is no necessity. We have military bases and Greenland is part of NATO. There isn’t a threat from Russia or China taking over. If anything Trumps threats are alienating our alliance and pushing Greenland away from cooperating with us.

This is a greed play for mineral resources. Same for his move in Venezuela.

Don’t be a puppet and don’t get fooled by a con mans spin. See it for what it is. Another clumsy and stupid move by our President.

This is a bad idea.
Taiwan has reached an agreement with the US for a $500 billion investment project in return for a tariff reduction from 20% to 15% and tariff waivers during the construction of new factories. (Tom's Hardware)

That amount includes $250 billion of direct investment and $250 billion of credit guarantees by Taiwan's government, but it also includes $100 billion of already-planned investment by TSMC.

dimocraps aren't just scum, they're irredeemably ******* stupid. Not just 'Stupid', I mean ******* stupid

Trumps actions would certainly push the to China, not in our direction

Mission accomplished.

The group pathology is not fading with time, it's only intensifying.

Trump was absolutely right with his "I could shoot someone on Fifth Avenue" line. And now it looks like he actually understated it.

I guess this is what they've always wanted. World domination. Who knew.

What was their contribution? Go on, get specific on that. Their support isn't worth much. The entitled Danes can't secure their own territory, it requires we do the lion's share and pay a much higher price in blood and treasure. We should not and won't put our security in the hands of third rate countries.

They trust China more than they trust us now. China is more stable, more focused. Canada just signed a big auto deal with them.

Trump and his cult thinks he has the world over a barrel. They are ignorant.

Basically, Trump wants to do the tariffs because he's having a tantrum. We can all see that. What he should have done was negotiate with NATO, the organisation that the US is part of, and arranged a large NATO base in Greenland made up of all NATO countries, with Greenland's agreement.

Now it's Trump v NATO.

US inflation will go up, the Federal bank will want to raise interest rates, and Trump will sack the top Fed bank boss because he'll disagree with their policy.
