President Trump fired at least 12 inspectors general late on Friday night, three people with knowledge of the matter said, capping a week of dramatic shake-ups of the federal government with a purge of independent watchdog officials created by Congress to root out abuse and illegality within federal agencies.

The firings defied a law that requires presidents to give Congress 30 days’ advance notice before removing any inspector general, along with reasons for the firing. Just two years ago, Congress strengthened that provision by requiring the notice to include a “substantive rationale, including detailed and case-specific reasons” for the removal.

As with so much that Trump does, this purge was done half-assed. Trump once again violated the law. This time he violated the law that required notice to Congress before the IG terminations. These violations will undoubtedly make their way through the Court system due to Trump and his coterie of incompetent twits being unable to follow the law.

At any rate, the purpose of the IG is to weed out fraud. Once the smoke clears, Trump will undoubtedly appoint sycophants, if any at all.

Trump’s burgeoning kleptocracy rolls on…

You lost. Get in the back of the bus.

Trump is running the country like a business. If you have employees that are worthless or not doing their job, you fire them. Does that help you understand?
Wow, look at that! A Trumper is fine with rampant corruption in government. What a surprise!

Looks like it's not a law, but a rule/practice. The POTUS has absolute authority to fire IG for whatever reason or no reason at all.

You’re wrong. There is notice requirement a president is obligated to follow. Of course, Trump has made a career of flouting the law, why should this time be any different.

have a link to that 'law'?

I read it was atleast 17 IGs...But I would guess it was more.

Probably the ones who "investigated" the stolen 2020 election. Losing their jobs will be the LEAST of their problems!

Thanks for the Saturday night laugh.

OP....What particular federal law did trump break.....Pay wall link.

As best as I can tell, if anything, Trump went against Congressional Code....Not law.

Besides the IGs sure as hell were not doing their jobs around waste, fraud, etc.
See post 10.
