The biggest problem with the Democrat's COVID Relief Bill is that they want to spend $915 billion dollars on aid to state and local gov'ts while the Repubs are only offering $150 billion. The original WH plan didn't even have that, they basically just wanted to do the individual payments, plus the extension to the UE benefits and the other stuff that Trump did the EOs for, which totaled out to be a little over $1 trillion. But the Dems want approx $3.4 trillion, so they're asking for an additional $2.4 trillion in spending that they want, which some might call pork. Plus, they want to do away with the SALT deduction, which has zip to do with the COVID pandemic. Anything over $1.5 trillion Bill is a victory for the Dems, and both sides know it. Essentially, the Dems are holding the COVID Relief checks to individual Americans as hostage to get the political victory they want. They could've agreed to the last deal offered by the WH, but they want more. Much more. And then they paint the WH and the Repubs as the bad guys. So for the Dems this isn't about passing a relief bill to help Americans out; this is about a political victory in November.
